How Many Women Are Supporting Theresa May Just Because She Is A Woman?
As per the thread title, I am wondering how many women are supporting Theresa May just because she is a woman rather than supporting her for her party political policies/ideology.
I ask this as in my experiences, a lot of women do seem to be supporting her because she is a woman as they are not Tory supporters but love the idea of having a woman as Prime Minister. I also noticed a similar thing happening when Margaret Thatcher died and younger ladies who were too young to have known what the Thatcher Government was like, were quite mesmerised that we once had a female PM back then too. I find it quite dismaying that people are won over so easily. I was growing up during the 80's but even then I was aware of politics then as the spending cuts by the Thatcher Government affected my school and we had to do sponsored runs/events every year from primary school and throughout secondary school to raise money for books and things like school mini buses. My parents were anti Thatcher as were many of my neighbours but none of us put it down to her sex and or had the desire to see her replaced by a man, it was the policies and ideology of the Tories/Thatcher Government and how it affected us that we didn't like. So what's your take on this and have you noticed the same thing in your own personal life/experiences that Theresa may is getting automatic support from women because of her sex rather than her party political policies/ideology? There have been some celebs and or media personalities that seem to support Theresa May too just because she's a woman. Kate Bush was the latest one that springs to mind, i think she said that she was never a Tory supporter but she loves Theresa may and the fact that we have another female PM or words to that effect. Again, I find this thinking very dismaying. If we had more female PM's and less men, I know I wouldn't be subconsciously desiring more male PM's for the sake of it, but it seems to me that this is the case when it comes to women PM.'s |

I don't doubt there will be some idiots that like her just because she's a female. However, I don't think it's very far spread, and the people that like her for that reason probably don't even vote anyway (as that's the kind of mindset idiots have).
I don't like or dislike her yet. She's not done enough for me to form an opinion either way. And I'm a female. |

Maybe because women are traditionally underrepresented in positions of power within government, business and society, women support each other when they reach these positions.
Why do you care? |

Going from your the extent of your thread, it would appear it should be in the politics section?

How many are supporting her just because she's not David Cameron is probably more the question.

Nope, I would never support a PM because they were female.
I would never support a Tory PM full-stop. I never supported Thatcher either. I do not know anybody who would support the PM because of her sex. I know people who support her because they support the Tory party and she is the leader of that party, but not because she's female. Perhaps the people you know are just very young and more gullible? Of course, it is terrific that women have the same opportunity to run the country as men, which is as it should be, no matter which party they happen to represent. |

It's okay. Corbyn has already thought about it. That's why he came out as a proud Welsh woman.
He gets the just because he's female vote and the just because he's Welsh vote |

Why do you care? If people are going to be won over so easily and on such a shallow/lazy thinking basis then is it any wonder why we don't get good Governments and good public services/living wages/good working rights? I agree with the first part of what you wrote that it probably is down to there not being enough women in top jobs but I still don't think that is a good enough reason to automatically support somebody just for their gender. In my experiences, most of my bosses have been female though and unless they've been out of order/unfair towards me and others, I've never had a problem with that. |

Labour have been proved right that you can't cut your way out of deficit/recession either. Any more proof you want in how wrong you've got it?! |

Because their votes could well affect my life as well as yours! I find there is far too much shallow and lazy thinking when it comes to who gets our support/votes. With male leaders with people who don't follow politics much but do vote in the General Elections it often comes down to "does their face fit" and look at what we've had with that kind of thinking, Cameron/Clegg and Blair! A fat lot of good they did - NOT!

A couple of links on Kate Bush's support of Theresa May. She supported Ken Livingstone in the past too and from the independent link, its hard to tell if KB has been all over the place with who she has supported politically or the journalist. Maybe both have.

Still early days, I haven't formed an opinion of her yet, not looking too good at the moment though.

ok. you don't think having fair representation of women and minorities in a governing body which makes laws for everyone is a big deal? lemme guess you're a guy.
As discrimination still goes on very quietly I suspect in a abuse of power way, then there is still a need for positive discrimination in some jobs but this is about how we the people vote and why. Why should anyone get support/vote just because of their sex and even more so if their policies do not help a lot of the people's out there?! |

I think David Davis should have stood for the job again and being a main Brexiter he would have stood a good chance. I as a Labour supporter have always quite rated him as a bit of a heavyweight and feared by the likes of Cameron and now TM seems to enjoy slapping him down. I think she has deployed Blair's tactic in promoting the ones you fear, then slap them down a few times because you can before demoting them/sacking them and taking out the risk of them replacing you one day. |

As we know, nobody ever elected Theresa May. ETA: I do support Mhairi Black though - because I like what she stands for, her passion for those she represents and belief in fairness. She just happens to be a woman but that's not why I like her.

As a female, I would hope that those women who are in a position of power within our government were chosen because they are good at what they do, not because they are women.
