Is it relatively straight-forward to replace a basic Sky Q LNB with one of the 6 way hybrid LNBs? Looks like I can buy one for about £35 and the dish is accessible. Are there any special tools needed though?

Background is, as a long time freesat user, I bought a new TV and it came with free Sky Q which sounded good in theory. The engineer who installed it replaced the old dish, with my quad LNB, and fitted a new dual LNB just feeding the main Sky Q dish. The cables to the other rooms were simply severed, and tucked in behind the dish... Unfortunately I wasn't home while it was done. After an hour on the phone with Sky support it sounds like they aren't willing to come back out and fix the stuff they've vandalised.

The wireless signal to the Sky Q minibox just isn't stable enough and the whole setup keeps needing resetting (despite 2 boosters). Plus the fact that I'm used to a Freesat box showing me what I want where the Sky box shows me what they want me to see, has me thinking I'll keep the main Sky Q box but go back to freesat in the bedrooms.

If it's just a £35 part I can fit myself I'll skip the hassle of dealing further with Sky and just buy and fit it!

Make a complaint and say you have lost TV in other room's in your house as a direct result of installation and wish the damage to be repaired. It happens all the time when Engineers don't ask about 3rd party viewing.

I could certainly make a proper complaint but I figure if it's easy enough to do it myself that's just going to be quicker. If it's not easy to do I'll go down that route...

They are NOT engineers, sky don't use engineers for installations. An engineer would not have vandalised the installation in that way.

Send a complaint to jeremy.darroch@bskyb.com, you will probably also get some credit.

Do this even if you do it yourself, see if you can at least get a credit to cover your costs.
