Just dug up (and used) a 10-yr-old sky box.
Goes back to 2005 and has been wrapped up in clingfilm since, what, 2008 when I got my Humax Foxsat to replace it.
Anyhow - nothing better to do so wondered if it still worked, what the standard's like, would it need a re-something and could it be useable if I got a card and eventually subbed to BT sports. Yes, it worked straight away (and had kept my favourites). The picture occupied about 3/4 of the 40" screen, so adjusted the setting to 16;9 and the TV setting so the picture's full screen. No HD available on it of course (although the HD channels are) and the SD picture looks pretty lousy compared to freeview SD. The graphics look old and dated, and the lettering too big to make it look blurred! Wonder if the HD boxes and now Q have something more up-to-date (sorry if that's a thick question, the graphics might be generic to Sky rather than the box). Overall, would I use it for BT or try for a second-hand HD box? Possibly, as a trail, but to improve the picture I would have to "squeeze" it I suppose. Conclusion, glad everything worked seamlessly but will return to my Humax which is just lovely in comparison! |

Do you see all channels on the EPG?
I run an old white Sky+ box without a card and am missing a number of channels e.g. London Live and I think Eden is missing. There are also some odd unnumbered channels just before BBC1 e.g. a second BBC Alba and Sky Sports Box Office. |

Funny you should mention Alba, that and S4C were the first two channels I checked it had!! |

Head in the sand with regard to the Sky HD and Q Guides? Images of them were splattered all over this very website! Much more graphical compared to old Sky EPGs. In such an instance, I'd recommend buying a second hand Sky HD box if you did ever get BT Sports.

Sorry, I mean that the tuner and EPG just do not show the Y and Y+1 channels at 537 and 538 - they just jump from 536 to 539
