Unshaven Evan Davis on Newsnight
I know a lot of you don't like my reactionary threads on these things, but come on Evan at least have some professional credibility and have a shave when you're on live tv.

What difference does it make. Doesn't bother me, as I've got a beard.
Ian. If he goes on to grow a proper beard, then fair enough, but I feel he's just not bothered to shave since the Xmas break. It's really not acceptable for someone presenting live tv on the BBC. |

He hasn't got a beard though, that's my point.

Does being unshaven stop him from doing his job professionally?
If you want to complain about anything why not moan about the double standards of men having to wear a suit and tie but women are allowed to be much more casual in their wardrobe on television? That applies to all broadcasters and not just the BBC. |

That would be more a killer retort if it were actually true! It's been a long time since a suit and tie were de rigueur for TV presenters across the board. Those that adopt it do so through personal preference these days.
I should add I'm talking about news readers and reporters not tv in general. It's not a real issue for me I just wondered why (in my opinion) perhaps 90% of the men are smartly dressed where as women in the same presenting roles seem more often than not to be smart casual. There's nothing wrong with either for me and if the 10 o'clock news was read by a man wearing something which wouldn't look out of place on a night out then so be it... As long as that night out wasn't Weatherspoons. |

I've finally been able to look at the 'offending' programme and can honestly say there's nothing wrong with that look, I half expected him to look like Robert Preston when he started to dress down. Even in HD the unshaven look matches his hair style. I know in replying I'm feeding the troll so I do apologise ![]() ![]()

'Masterchef-Extra Portion' As cameras follow Greg Wallace doing his Weekly shop (around Waitrose natch). Whether Greg Wallace has a shave before setting foot out of the house to gather ingredients like a marginally better mannered Neanderthal I'm unsure, but I for one can't wait to find out the outcome of the drama. It will be riveting. Bon appetit! 🍴 |

And sometimes, men can suffer from a form of shaving or skin rash that makes further shaving difficult & painful. But then again, you do seem to make a habit out of nitpicking anti-BBC threads. |

OMG, what is the world coming to. I mean man doesn't shave. I just hope to god this doesn't affect the FTSE to much. I reckon we'll be lucky to get away with a 900 point drop by lunchtime. Though it seems to be steady ish at the moment but when it gets out, well I'm getting into gold, and cash, cos this is not gonna be good.
If North Korea or China are monitoring Newsnight well its pretty obvious it'll all be over fairly soon. I suggest we all start digging a bunker, it might not get too bad but even low yield nuclear weapons get messy. Obviously Gareth Southgate has got to go now, I mean there's no hope considering the outcome of this shocking revelation. I only hope this doesn't affect Her Majesty's health too severely. Or Zippy's |

So if he has a beard fine... but he can't be in the stages of potentially growing one...
OP has no idea how hair growth or the human body works... |

I thought we hit a low in "what are TV presenters wearing" when the country tore Peter Sissons for having the gall to wear a burgundy tie, and not a black one when announcing the death of the QM. Given how he had to rush to get on air, wearing anything formal should be good enough
But this is lower. |

I think the OP was either drunk, high, or both. Nobody can actually be stupid enough to complain about something so utterly irrelevant without something affecting them like too much booze.
