It's always interested me. I know this is a bit of a loaded question and probably means different things to different people/housemates. But what is this "game" housemates get accused of playing?

* Projecting a false image of oneself to carry favour with the public (being nicey nice/pretend colourful)
* Deliberately making other housemates look bad
* Setting other housemates up as villains, then playing the victim when they retaliate
* Deliberately creating discussion points and storylines (ie fake romance/arguments) to generate screen time

Any other examples? Who were the biggest "game players" and what was their "game"?

I think there are lots of ways you can be a 'gameplayer' really.

I'd say Jason who won civilian was a good one. He deserved the victory for getting good rid of competition. People say Aaron who won BB12 was too (2nd fave HM for me!) As well as Victor during BB5.

To "play the game" means to follow the rules in any given situation which isn't the same as being a "gameplayer" which IMO means to try and work the rules to your own advantage

Not many ways to play a game in BB UK.

You can try create a personality that you think the public will support - to do and say things you think the public want to hear - turning against people who are booed, sucking up to people who are cheered. This is my least favourite type of housemate, as they try (and almost alway fail) to deceive the viewer and nothing they do is genuine. An example of this is Bobby Davro.

Another way is to try and influence nominations without breaking rules - sew seeds in peoples minds, that sort of thing. The thing is, pretty much everyone does this, even the ones who get outraged at the though that someone might be 'playing a game'. Some people are more subtle, and some have fun with it (like Speidi).

It's so easy, when you know the rules:
1. Don't play hard to get.
2. When you're feeling down and your resistance is low, light another cigarette and let yourself go.
3. Fall in love.

Housemates can also play the game by pretending to go on a journey, like Helen Wood, or by claiming to be excessively fond of the show, like Scarlett did in IAC.

Something we see a little less these days with all production meddling, but

* Attempts to rig nominations (Nasty Nick, Victor/Jason, Kathreya). You tend to see it a lot more during regular BB.

But also, a more recent trend for "game playing" is

* Playing to the production team and giving them the "footage" they want (all those fake romances, but especially the wind up merchants: Bear, Perez, Speidi, even Helen).

They're savvy enough to know production will protect them if they cause enough aggravation - and the other housemates know it too.

I agree your point about the regular BB. IMO Jason was the latest after Aaron 5 years earlier. I liked both HMs.
CBB HMs generally play the game by forcing entertainment. But Aaron and Jason actually played it the way Nick did (shame back then game play aspect in BB1 was against the rules hence Nick's ejection). I'd put only Victor, Aaron and Jason in "top tier" for their gameplaying... also gameplaying is not always negative. Victor and Aaron let the public know what they were doing... actually I'll add Ashleigh Coyle to that list for her plan to get rid of Ash.

Aaron's outing of Anton was fantastic, as was Jason's masterstroke, controversial decision to immediately evict the favourite to win, Lateysha from the house!
