Well not everything, I would want him joining in with Brenda and Bob in the bedroom for example.

As I've said in a different thread, Emmerdale is good but there's a total imbalance of character utilisation. Megan, Herriet, Bob and Brenda have basically turned intonamed extras whilst Robron, Ross, Chas, Moira and Cain are seldom off-screen.
He went downhill after the Donna storyline. As much as I think it was unnecessary to kill off another long term character, that story was good. Then we found out he'd got Charity pregnant in a completely off-screen not even hinted at event when he would've been in the middle of grieving for Donna, who I do believe he genuinely cared about. Agree with the others on your list. Brenda is nothing more than a lightweight irritant these days, poking her nose into other people's affairs in the caff. |

I also dislike the way in which Nicola, Jimmy and Bernice have turned into pathetic comedy characters. I remember when Nicola used to be bitchy and cunning, Jimmy was running Home Farm and Bernice was an excellent landlady of a country pub... now all three are shadows of their former selves.
Now the majority of his scenes are repetitive panto comedy. I'm so over him and Nicola. Before, while he was never the brightest, he was surrounded by solid drama and a strong family which helped. This set up with Nicola just isn't working by comparison. Killing Carl off is surely something the show regrets doing. Bloody Blackburn again.

I think there is a lot going on and maybe some actors appreciate less storylines occasionally for various reasons.
It hasn't been as long for Megan and Harriet but it's been a while. Quote:
Not really, Ross has gone from trying to kill people to being a good dad to Moses and making up with Pete, whilst being there to comfort the mother who tried to kill him.
I really don't buy his close relationship with Pete after everything that went down. That said Ross has improved a bit from the mess of 2015. I don't mind them using him as a horndog as it makes a change from him committing violent acts every five minutes. But he is barely on screen these days. We've gone from one extreme to another. Unless a happy medium can be found, he'll soon start to feel pointless. |

I enjoy watching ED with the comedy and drama.
I gave up on EastEnders six years ago because I found it was rubbish, and kept moaning about it. Why watch something you don't enjoy? Oh that's right. You would rather come on here, and constantly moan about a programme, pledge to give up on it, only to then still watch the next episode. Emmerdale does NOT need a shake up. I have voted for it at this month's NTA's. I lasted 1 minute last night. More crap Tracey, more execrable buttock-clenchingly embarrassing Robron for the tumblr crowd. I usually try to find something good to say, but it's got to the point where there isn't much. It is a shame though, because it was an absolutely cracking soap a few years ago, and I loved it. That's why sometimes, it's hard to switch off. Also, there's still some good actors on there, in spite of the rubbish material - John Middleton, Mike Parr, Jeff Hordley. But yep, the off button has been deployed a lot lately. I need to make 2017 the year I find something to do that doesn't insult my brain. |

Emmerdale is nothing like Hollyoaks?

There are too many so called comedy characters / buffoons in Emmerdale at the moment. Marlon can't even stir a pan of soup without overacting in a totally over the top pantomime manner.

Think this is a good point really. I've been through this with soaps before, you stick with them out of habit, hoping they'll get better, and it just gets frustrating in the end. You have to switch off.

I dont think I agree at all. Emmerdale right now is still some of the best soap viewing in years. Im glued to the screen for the entire episode with very little distraction. That says it all for me. Of course every soap has storylines you don't like as much or characters you'd rather see gone (it seems like here on the forums 'deadwood' comes up often, but everyone's idea of deadwood is so individual Im not sure it can be taken as fact) but that doesn't mean they are doing anything wrong or need to change when overall the show is still enjoyable to watch the majority of the time.
