The lengths some fans will go to.
I got a news popup on my Google Now with an article from the Mirror about a fan of Ben Mitchell from EastEnders that has spent £5000 customising all sorts of items to show Ben Mitchell's face and I was quite shocked by what I saw...
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...itance-9559361 I'd like to firstly say that it's great that the EastEnders storyline has helped this guy come to terms with his own situation, but it seems creepy that this 48 year old man has his house and clothes plastered in a (fictional portrayal) of an 20ish year old, and the actor himself being 24. You expect this kind of thing from teenagers who don't know better, but from a 48 year old bloke it's a bit weird. I suspect there's an underlying issue that he's not dealing with here (especially the death of his mother). I know he's not hurting anyone, and it's up to him what he does, but it just seems very weird being that obsessed over an EastEnders character, of all things. |

Shaun Smith says it is his dream to meet actor Harry Reid in person.
If I was Harry Reid I would already be taking out an injunction against this guy. |

Just leave him alone. Who knows what is happening in his mind. If that makes him happy...at least he's been featured in the national newspapers and judging by the whole outlook on this society, it is a great success, a golden ticket to BB house (maybe)

I've already said he's not hurting anyone, but it is weird. |

I posted about this in the soap forums thread. Can you imagine if you walked into a room and saw pictures of you everywhere? I'd be very scared. In a similar topic I was amazed (and highly disgusted) at some of the posts I read from one of the showbiz threads about rabid fans. I have quoted some below (these are just quotes, as I am not a fan of any of the people involved I don't know if these are true or not) Quote:
Like these nutters that seem to want Freddie to disappear, they seem to think Louis losing his son is preferable to him having a son, which means he had sex with a woman that isn't them and doesn't fit their fantasy. They are turning their venom of his baby mother's step father, who clearly is concerned about the nut jobs, setting up website to abuse his step daughter and her son.
Quote:
i can't wait until briana is desperately posting pictures of a dead "freddie" on her instagram to try and get the last bit of attention she can when louis outs her as the awful, gold digging whore she is.
(That is a post from another website quoted on here, not made by anyone on DS)Quote:
Doesn't surprise me in the least. Evidently, there was a photo shop of Cumberbatchs wife being run down by a train with we wish under it, and they were hoping his baby would be born disabled or die at birth, those that didn't go with the fake pregnancy and pillow baby, that is. This sort of thing seems to be common among these type of people.

It looks a bit weird/creepy. I suppose if it gives him comfort and makes him happy then it's okay. The same thing, or sort of, probably happens with some obsessed fans when it comes to their favourite singer.

But some people, like you say, are very venomous when it comes to celebrities. I've seen people like this over Justin Bieber when he dates, wishing death on his girlfriend's and whatnot. It is very bizarre, but hopefully most of these people are either teenagers or pre-teen and will grow out of the obviously immature behaviour. |

It is disgusting, isn't it? I wasn't trying to be mean to the man in question here, or anything, just saying it's a bit weird.

It is actually quite disturbing.
Reminds me of an old friend of mine, he had a shrine to Roxanne McKee, not quite on this guys level with Cushions etc, but had his wall covered in Roxanne McKee pictures.. and before that Jennifer Ellison. He even got a tattoo of Roxanne McKee & a rose, the tattoo artist looked at him like he was mad apparently, try explaining that to his future girlfriend!

he hasn't owned up to being on the soap forum but then his interest seems specifically with the actor rather than the soap/character.
he needs less press and attention over this, its not right but the guy clearly has something lacking in his life. someone on the soap forum thinks he has tried to find out Harry Reid's address, if he has then that puts an even more creepy slant on things. |

I used to know someone who had a thing for John Major. She had a whole wall of pictures of him.

One the one hand, if he spent £5000 stuffing his house full of other types of memorabilia folk probably wouldn't bat an eyelid. Sinatra memorabilia, or classice movie posters, or beer mats from around the world, or whatever.
On the other hand, being known for wandering round town in a Ben Mitchell onesie...is a bit bizarre. |
