Why no Fair City on UK TV?
Why is Irish soap Fair City not shown on TV in the UK now? I vaguely remember I thought it was on BBC1/2 15 or so years ago or was that just in N Ireland? Another Irish soap called Red Rock was on the BBC over the summer. I know a lot of people say its fairly crap but I thought some UK channel would have it. I was over visiting relations in Ireland over the Christmas and I was watching it with them. It wasnt that bad and I began to watch it everynight it was on. The acting isnt great but the storylines are like over here.

It was on Tara TV which was an RTE channel aimed at the UK and other countries and had the 'best of' programmes from Eire. The channel failed and was closed down, possibly due to the nightly Daniel O'Donnel programme!

My Mum and my Gran, who were both born and raised in Dublin, used to love it
and missed Tara when it went off air. I found 'Fair City' a bit amateurish, but some of the cast were clearly trying their best with it. The audience this side of the Irish Sea just wasn't big enough. |

Because it's absolutely awful and no-one would watch it.

Doubt it would go done as one of the better soaps, but it must be doing something right if it has lasted 27 years.
