Aren't they all noisy and bone-jarringly vibrating though ? I've got a B & D Mouse sander, and it's both those things but excellent and does the job. Used it for doors, windows, skirtings, and it's a Godsend.

Hi D,
Happy New Year! I know sweet FA about sanders but always willing to help if possible. I ran into a problem straight away because you don't say what type of sander you want, so perhaps you don't know? Looking around it would seem a random orbital sander would be more suitable than a belt sander, as it's lighter and easier to control, although it can leave circular scratches that you'd have to hand sand afterwards. You may be OK with a palm sander and attach your vacuum cleaner hose for dust extraction. Looks like you'll need a face mask/goggles too and gloves to lessen the vibrations. There's a how to buy guide here from Which: http://www.which.co.uk/reviews/sande...o-buy-a-sander that describes the options. I'm a subscriber so had a look at the top eight brand reviews but individual models aren't mentioned and the article is from 2013. However the top 4 brands in descending order were Makita, De Walt, Bosch and Ryobi with not much between them, followed some way behind by Wickes own brand, Black & Decker and then B&Q own brands. Here's a link to the full table from the subscribers' site (if it works): http://www.which.co.uk/media/popup/t...rs-334650.html. Looking at the Amazon reviews under £50 this mains operated 220W Bosch PEX 220 A for £47 appears to be the best, is light at 1.4kg, relatively quiet, but lots of dust escapes the bag: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-60337...orbital+sander, and the Bosch info: https://www.bosch-do-it.com/gb/en/di...886-199908.jsp. As an alternative here's a light, cheap and cheerful VonHaus 130W palm sander for £17: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00P7T2UKM?psc=1, but it may be noisy, and dust extraction via your vacuum cleaner hose is only good if it fits tightly. Another palm sander the 55W Black & Decker for £17.42 but lots of 1 star reviews and it might be noisy too: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Decke...5Q2VB3PFWWZ53C. |
