My would be Atticus Finch, To Kill a mockingbird:
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."

It took me some time (in practice) to digest that.

You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you're miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
You just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you've got a friend in me
Yeah, you've got a friend in me

The advice given by "the scientist" to Bubby in Bad Boy Bubby.

It is the duty of all human beings to think God out of existence. Then we have a future. Because then - and only then - do we take full responsibility for who we are.

The best advice I've (never) received came a little bit too late. It's from "London for Immigrant suckers; So long Yugoslavia"

"Apparently, it is a matter of the utmost importance to start your love life career with a glamorous victory. If your first girlfriend is a sufferer who collects burdens on her shoulders, at some subconscious level you’ll feel that that is kind of your destiny. You won’t be able to get away from this type; they’ll seek your fertile ground and infuse it with their frustrations. They’ll hunt you down and anchor you up to them. But if you are clever and realize this at the beginning, then you are saved"

I wish I'd read this 25 years ago.

Not sure if it was originally his saying but mine is from John Lennons song "Beautiful Boy"

Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

Love this saying and so true.

But don't let 'em say you ain't beautiful, oh
They can all get ****ed.
Just stay true to you

God gave you them shoes
To fit you, so put 'em on and wear 'em
Be yourself, man, be proud of who you are
Even if it sounds corny,
Don't ever let no one tell you, you ain't beautiful

From "Always on my mind", Willie Nelson,
"Maybe I didn't hold you, all those lonely, lonely times,
and I guess I never told you, I'm so happy that you're mine."

I never miss an opportunity to do it now.

Walk Unafraid by REM. In fact the whole song but I've just pasted the first verse.

As the sun comes up, as the moon goes down
These heavy notions creep around
It makes me think, long ago
I was brought into this life a little lamb
A little lamb
Courageous, stumbling
Fearless was my middle name.
But somewhere there I lost my way
Everyone walks the same
Expecting me to step
The narrow path they've laid
They claim to
Walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
Hold me love me or leave me high.

Never judge a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
Then , when you do judge him he's a mile away and you've got his shoes.

Someone beat me to "sunscreen".
