Reminds me of:

'What could have been. What should have been. These are the saddest phrases in our English language.'

Daphne Du Maurier, The King's General

Then the similarity reminds me of:

'The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - that you'd thought special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you've never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it's as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.'

From The History Boys.

The best usable advice I've put into practice was from Sirius Black in Harry Potter. Don't have a meeting in a near-empty location because you're much easier to overhear. I also near-quoted Dumbledore in a government meeting once and everyone nodded like I was being super-wise

It's not a quote but something I learnt from the tv programme Malcolm in The Middle - have difficult conversations with your teenager whilst driving - they can't escape and you have their full attention.

BIB: That's awesome. And you've reminded me of my own favourite quotes that give advice:

"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."- Dumbledore, Chamber of Secrets

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"- Dumbledore, Deathly Hallows

The first one is pretty clear, but the second one I suppose encouraged my imagination.

After all, preceding a statement of fact with 'after all' does not qualify as advice Marg.

You could live your life by that song.
Some parts of it make my eyes a bit gritty.

Some good advice from Rogers and Hammerstein;

Quote:
“Some enchanted evening
When you find your true love,
When you feel her call you
Across a crowded room,
Then fly to her side,
And make her your own
For all through your life you
May dream all alone.

Once you have found her,
Never let her go.
Once you have found her,
Never let her go!”

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die
in your sleep

That is very true.

There are no ghosts but people are haunted alright.

By what they lacked the courage to do when they had the opportunities and thus let their golden chances pass them by.

Such deep regrets are forged like the chains of Marley's ghost and are dragged around behind them forever.

"I'm never gonna dance again. Guilty feet have got no rhythm"

And he's right. I was heavily into criminal activity. Into all sorts of stuff. A really bad guy. A nasty piece of work some might say
Then one day I thought about my actions and whether I should start taking responsibility for my actions. I started to think about the harm my actions may have had on other people, and for the first time in my life I felt remorse. A small tear formed in the corner of my eye. Needless to say I wasn't really in the mood for dancing.

Then a week later I thought "Fukc it! My life. Who gives a fukc anyway? I enjoy money too much to give it all up" and ever since that day my dancing skills have improved considerably, AND I get to enjoy the rewards of my life of crime too. Thanks for changing my outlook on life Michael, you will be missed.
