It's not been on the central line since 1994 but it's still only a 30 minute drive from east london

True, Epping is now the last stop.

Why did they discontinue the Epping-Ongar service?

This could have made a better ending for tonight's show

Jack: I'm taking the kids to Ongar

Max: Don't blame you, we'll visit, it's just a trip on the Central Line

Abi: No Dad not since 1994. Now it's a 30 minute drive

*anxious face*

DOOF DOOF DOOF.......

I think it was the most loss-making section of the Underground. Blake Hall station had closed in 1981 and the service reduced to peak hours only in 1982.

I watched the repeats of Just Good Friends, and the Warrenders came from Ongar. mind you, the Pinners came from Walthamstow, at the end of the Victoria Line. So, all is fair in love and tube wars!

That is exactly what I thought and it is quite funny how everyone carries on about it. It's the sort of place you'd visit to go out for dinner and then go home afterwards without much stress.

Considering other Eastenders go to Manchester, Leeds or abroad - and are often never seen again - Ongar is no distance.

Historically, Eastenders were quite insular and there were some who never ventured outside the East End, but this is 2017 and most seem quite well travelled.

Max should go with them. There's a place called Ashwells a 10 minute cab ride away that has a regular over 30's party night - think of the divorcees he could seduce.

I know where Ongar is as I once (accidentally) bought a Zone 6 season ticket -all the way out to Ongar - instead of Zone 5 and had to pay about 100 pounds more. That must have been in around 1994....
