He's been absolutely superb. Kudos to Scott.

Jake Wood has also been great but then I've always thought he's terrific but Scott has truly shone which is great.

I totally agree Sorcha and just like Aaron remarked so has DBH - I just wish that far more male characters were given the strong material that the Poison Potato always gets.

It's hard to make a strong impression when an actor is given virtually nothing to do.

PS.

There is a soap thread on Chatter but very few people post there unfortunately.

You and anyone else on here would be very welcome indeed.

I think everyone just needs to calm down a bit. He has been better than usual admittedly, but still a bit cringe for most of it. Not that it's all Scott Maslens fault. Like I said on another thread the other day, the soaps are such conveyor belts these days and filmed so quickly that it's virtually impossible to invest a character with a performance of any substance.

It's a shame it had to come to this for me to give Scott a thumbs up for his acting. He's doing a good job now, I actually wanted to give him a hug last night.

All is forgiven (for now) Scott.

He is not the best Actor in the show but he is not awful.

I wonder if he was actually asked back for Ronnie's storyline and that he will actually leave for Ongar in a few weeks.

I've never been a fan of the character of Jack, and could not understand why he was brought back, but this week I have really enjoyed, if that is the right word, his scenes. He's portrayed dealing with grief very well.

Can't comment on his acting cause I don't normally watch EE, but did anyone else fall over laughing when he exclaimed "That's it! After all this we're moving to Ongar!" as if Ongar is the other side of the world?!

I've never seen him as a terrible actor (that live cock up was hilarious though), but I think he has been a bit bland as all of his storylines have been about getting various women pregnant. He's been heartbreaking this week - the aftermath of the deaths is a lot more dramatic than the drowning scenes themselves.

Yes ! It's a few stops up the Central line. Also, what's REALLY annoying me is Max telling him to 'move on' or wards to that effect. It's only been a few days. Crass and ridiculous.

I literally nearly wet myself laughing. God forbid you should move to Ongar, you'll never see anyone again!!!!

Can't comment on the Max thing, I was only waiting for DIP and unfortunately caught the end of EE. Well, I say unfortunately. It gave me a laugh so it's not all bad.

I didn't rate him at all in his first stint but ever since he returned I've really like Jack. Scott Maslen isn't the greatest actor in the world but he's good at doing grief. Unlike most people I've fully supported Jack's treatment of Roxy over the past few weeks so I've not been given any reason to dislike him. He's right. Roxy, the trainwreck, killed Ronnie.

This is the side of Jack i wanted explored when James died, but instead, they focused so much on Ronnie, Kat and Alfie, that they never really explored Jack. I've always thought Scott was capable, and really don't understand the criticism he gets. I'm not one to get emotional, but his portrayal does really make you feel for the character, especially watching the video last night and how he was trying to tell the kids. I don't want him to go, I want to see his character explored more and see new avenues with him (as long as it doesn't involve a Honey affair). He is more than capable.

That was terrible. Max was going on like Ronnie had left him for someone else, not died with her sister, and left him with the kids to bring up alone. He's allowed to grieve.

I completely agree. Scott has been brilliant this week and particularly last night.

I thought that too. I'm not sure the exact timeline that we're meant to be on, guessing it has to still only be days since so I thought Max had poor lines there. I get what he's trying to say about being strong for the kids as you would have to do that first, but it still came off badly with his line and certain parts where it seems he's making out losing your wife on your wedding night only days ago should be put to bed and forgotten about.

Good point about male characters getting the good material.

I've argued many times that EE generally don't seem to trust male characters with the heavy material and focus more on the females (which isn't a bad thing so to speak).

But I'll be annoyed if they've written Jack out (as well as Amy and Ricky).

Finally, for the first time in nearly 10 years, I'm finding Jack a really complex and interesting character. All I can remember him doing since 2007 is being Ronnie's bit on the side and having a brief 'thing' with Sharon. Now he's a widower and grieving single father and want them to explore it more. I find it fascinating viewing.

But they're going to send him off to Ongar instead?! I hope not.
