Now, THIS is how to perform a tribute song...

Just happened across this in my usual daily youtube session. Very brave to cover one of the tributee's best and most important songs in front of him (not to mention Barack and Michelle Obama plus the great and the good of Hollywood!) but good God Mr Sumner flipping nailed this. Pretty poignant to see Philip Seymour Hoffman having a great time in the audience as well...

Other random thoughts? Sting has the weirdest way of clapping

Sting - The Rising - Kennedy Center Honors Bruce Springsteen

Bruce (brilliantly) returned the compliment a few years later!

My first thought based on the thread title was you've finally watched that link I once posted for you when we were having a heated discussion which showed First Aid Kit performing 'Emmylou' in front of Emmylou Harris and making her go all emotional.

I genuinely can't remember you linking to that, rocketpop. But, bizarrely, I've watched it loads of times (plus the Patti Smith and Paul Simon tributes) having been very late to the FAK party but finally buying Stay Gold and absolutely loving it Maybe your subliminal link did its trick after all?

I'm now going to have to find the Paul Simon tribute when I get home. I don't think I've seen/heard it - Unless it's just 'America'? Which is a staple for them. Hope you brought Lion's Roar too (I think now it just edges Stay Gold by a Rizla paper - both are great though obviously ). First album is decent too.

New album this year hopefully.

I'll save you the searching time. It is indeed America and, like Ms Smith and Ms Harris before him, Mr Simon is visibly moved by the rendition.

Yes, got Lion's Roar as well but not had an extended listen yet. BTW, I love the Boston gig that's on YT (full gig), if you haven't seen it worth a squint. Excellent live act (and I think I'm developing a worrying crush on Johanna )

I've been lucky enough to see them live at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. It was about a fortnight after seeing another sister act The Pierces at the same venue. The Pierces were decent enough, but First Aid Kit were much better.

First one that comes to mind is Sharleen from Texas doing 'Across The Universe' in a Jools Holland tribute show for John Lennon ..........I think it was probably the 20th anniversary of his death
