Hi I have not had a laptop for 5 years, its all changed now, I have an Android tablet and was wanting something a little newer and bigger, I like the idea of a windows 10 2 in 1, it has a SSD of 128gb, Are these tablets or laptops? it has no dvd drive so how do I load software on to it? Can I use an external DVD drive to do this? also are they the same as the laptops I used to use these 2 in 1 systems? and get sluggish with age and also need auntivirus software installing? Sorry new to all this again, I have used chromebooks in the past and these started up instantly but I'm unsure if these do the same. Mainly it will be used for word processing, and browsing the web, streaming youtube and so on, I'm no gamer but I like the screen quality of this laptop.

this is the laptop I am looking at:

Any advice please.

Yes, they are basically Windows laptops. You can use a USB connected DVD, or just copy your software on to a USB stick to install.

Yes, you will need antivirus, but there are lots of good free ones.

PCs don't slow down with age due to hardware issues, they just need a refresh of software now and again. Windows 10 can do that for your these days.

Think of it as a laptop with a trick lid that folds a bit more than a "conventional" one. If you don't use the lid folding trick then it behaves just like any other laptop.

I might be tempted myself to go for one with more disk space and RAM but depending on your use what that device has may well be sufficient. If you get into editing videos, for example, then you might find extra storage and RAM helps. But otherwise it should be OK for what you've stated you intend to use it for.

As for loading software on to it. I suspect these days manufacturers expect you to download stuff or maybe use online tools so don't think you need an optical drive any more.

It could be a problem if you wander into somewhere like PC World and buy a box off the shelf with a DVD inside. I think the last time I used a disk to install anything was Windows 7 when that was brand new! Can't think of anything since that I've needed the optical drive in my laptop for, in fact not sure if my current one has ever seen a disk in it's life!
