And...here it it. Our daily dose of doom and gloom. Thought we had escaped for once. Must have taken a bit longer to trawl the internet.

Not sure it can be down to Brexit as according to some remainers we haven't left yet so it doesn't count. Unless of course it is only good news that doesn't count whereas anything slightly less than good is due to evil brexit.
One of the reasons they are closing is because of the value of the pound and that it is costing more to import the Italian products. here is an idea, get it from the UK, I am pretty sure most of the products they use can come from the UK.

The other reason is that not enough people are using the restaurants.

It is the people who work at these places i feel sorry for as they lose their jobs.

Probably more to do with the appalling overpriced slop they serve.
I didn't notice any slop on the menu. Yes, it was more expensive than Five Guys or wherever but it was in the same ballpark as other similar chains.

I'm sure they do use some British sourced products, especially for the meat and veg but if you are running an Italian restaurant you really can't avoid having Italian wines, cheeses and olive oil.

The Prawn Linguine looks delicious.

We've accepted that a disastrous result occurred that will stuff the UK economy. Now stop gloating about how you've made life worse for almost everyone. We now have to make the best of what we've been dumped in and that means as soft a Brexit as possible, and probably Scottish independence and the break up of the UK.

Would you like to buy the Brooklyn Bridge - you seem like someone who will fall for anything?

It is not down to the value of the pound but the poor performance of the restaurants being closed because of poor service, poor quality and primarily wrong location. Otherwise the whole chain would be shutting down.

I agree in feeling sorry for the workers although the majority are planned to be redeployed within the chain.

If I want authentic Italian food I tend to eat in authentic Italian restaurants, owned and managed and staffed by authentic Italians.
In the same way that if I want to ride in a gondola I go to Venice and not Las Vegas.
I have therefore never eaten in one of his Italians and have no plans to ever do so.

Maybe I'm the real reason that the fat tongued mockney chef has had to shut up shop...........mama Mia 🙀

They euphemize the menu as no-one is going to risk something labelled slop!

The one in Cardiff is appalling.

Jamie Oliver shut down three restaurants in January 2014 as well including two in London.

I presume that was due to Brexit as well!

I am reminded of this tweet from later that year.

Lets see if I'm clear:

Any bad news (however spurious) is down to Brexit even though it hasn't happened yet?
Any goods news is in spite of Brexit because it hasn't happened yet?
This is exactly it. Remainer logic is always good for a laugh.

The reviews on trip advisor are not great. Apparently they often run out of garlic bread.

i have never been in any of them, so i can not say what the quality of service is or the quality of the food, but I did say the other reason was that not enough people using them.

I doubt the value of the pound help to be honest if they do get products from Italy,

Given you could need a million quid up front to join his franchise i'm not surprised that certain restaurants are failing and getting closed, foods a rather expensive business to enter in to especially at the upper end as its not just sausage, egg and chips from the local cash and carry at the cheapest price possible.

And it being a franchise i'd imagine you have to buy all your stuff through his company at a very nice profit margin for him.

The future is traditional bread & dripping, not that foreign muck.

This is what it actually says on his website....

•Experience in sourcing and working with fresh produce and ingredients;

•A desire to open more than three or more Jamie’s Italians;

•Financial resources to open and support your restaurants – it can cost upwards of £1m to open a Jamie’s Italian (market specific of course)

•An established operational and support service infrastructure and knowledge that can assist your Jamie’s Italian business
Location, Furnishings, Kitchen equipment, staff, marketing, advertising etc, etc.

It doesn't sound like people are forced to hand over money and is for people with experience.

I suggest you don't ask to see their passports or birth certificates then, you might be in for a bit of a shock! More than just one or two 'Italian' restaurants are Italian in name (and decor) only, regardless of the food...

But granted, a 'real' establishment rather than a franchise is going to be a different experience anyway.
