6 Episodes of Corrie for 2017....TOO MUCH!

I think the amount of episodes being shown currently is more than enough for corrie, upping them to 6 seems like overkill overhaul.....hope the quality will keep at bay....

I know the opinions on this are split, but I love watching the soaps I watch so I for one welcome the extra episodes. Emmerdale has done it for ages and is fantastic, so its not the number of episodes being produced that helps or hurts quality of the show. And if they start adding more actors/writers etc to balance the extra output needed, I dont see why it should change much.

My favoured schedule for the soaps would be:

Emmerdale - 19:00 Monday to Friday with hour-long Wednesday
EastEnders - 19:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Coronation St - 20:00 Monday, Wednesday and Friday, each for an hour

No doubles, consistent start times all week and no clashes. Would require movement on both sides but I think has mutual benefit to ITV and the BBC, giving ITV 19:30 slot through the week for new formats and the BBC 20:00 hour. The networks have moved the shows before - EE started at 19:00 but eventually moved, etc. Times have changed since the current timeslots were introduced (almost double the episodes overall) and I see no reason why they can't be tidied up.

EE would benefit on Monday and Friday from being the gap between Corrie and Emmerdale, and ITV viewers would not have to put up with the double episodes and contrived cliffhangers. Corrie would only have 3 episodes a week but they would all be in hour-format to make up the 6 episodes worth ITV allow. This would allow for better scripting and structuring of episodes.

Hopefully it will give the massive cast more room

Soap episodes should be reduced each week not increased. The quality is noticeably affected by the number of episodes they have to churn out.

3 episodes a week for each soap is more than adequate

If only... unfortunately in reality that is just not going to happen! ITV especially will milk them until they can't any longer.

I'd like them back to 2 a week with extra episodes/hour-specials 5 times a year. But it's just fantasy to expect that to happen. I remember when younger the soaps were on 2-3 times a week and occasionally had "5 night specials" and it was sooo exciting. Now that's the norm!

Corrie still attracts a high audience rating comparatively speaking (god knows how). As such, the advertisers love this and Corrie will then make ITV a shed load of cash. The whole TV business is cash driven

I am sure most of us oldies have seen the decline in quality due to the increase in quantity. Sorry folks you will need to suck it up, ITV will milk Corrie for all its worth

If ITV could I am sure they would love to have this on 7 days a week

It won't. It will compound their trashy acting

One of the major problems with Corrie is the lack of rehearsal time and allowing them knowing go ahead with mistakes

There's no "that wasn't good enough....please do again..."

Its straight onto the next scene

I'd rather they reduced it, I started Emmerdale a few months ago and while I enjoy it I always fall behind and have to catch up at the weekend, every week night is just too much.

Made a table of how I would rearrange the soap scheduling:

Current on top, reshuffle below. I think it would be infinitely better for viewers of the soaps.
