Royal Mail Special Delivery - what time?
James J
06-01-2017
My aunt has sent me something to come by Royal Mail Special Delivery before 1pm tomorrow.

The only problem is, the doorbell is broken and I can't hear the door from upstairs. So I need to go downstairs to be near the door to hear the knock.

Can someone tell me the earliest possible time the delivery might be? 8am?

Thanks.

Well what time does your postman come as they do bring these out as well as normal post

Oh, it comes with the normal post does it? I thought it might have come a different time.

Usually that comes after 11 so I suppose it'll be okay and I don't need to get up super early!

It depends. If your delivery route is normally completed before the 1pm guarantee time then the local delivery office will just put it in with your normal postie's route.

If your deliveries are sometimes after 1pm then it will be sent separately.

If the item was sent today are you sure it's been sent with the Saturday service? That's very expensive. If it was sent today with normal Special Delivery the guarantee time will be 1pm on Monday.

It's definitely before 1pm every day usually so I can expect it to come with the normal post.

Thanks for your help!

Alot depends if its a letter or a parcel, and the size of parcel as they can come at a different time by a van

Not entirely sure there is a Saturday option with Special Delivery. The options on the Royal Mail website only mention "next working day" with either before 1PM or before 9AM options.

Next working day sent today would mean Monday.

Just seen the FAQ section. You can get Saturday delivery from a Post Office but it costs extra.

Quote:
“For a small fee, Post Offices throughout the UK will accept your items on Friday for 9:00am* or 1:00pm delivery on Saturday.”

The extra charge for saturday delivery is approx £4.50 more.

So if a person is spending £8.55 for Next Day(1pm) to get it on a Sat would cost £13.26 (that's for an item up to 1kg in weight)

She seems to think that though it's not guaranteed to come Saturday as not paid the extra, it's likely to be (she says previous things she's sent on Fri have arrived Sat without the extra payment).

Will find out tomorrow I guess, but expect Monday now.

Thanks.

It may come tomorrow. It's just not guaranteed until Monday.
