my girlfriend phoned 3 today to give her months notice. after someone finally answerin her initial call and asking to cancel the operator (indian of course) was typing something then all of a sudden without warning my gf was put on hold for 18 minutes (turns out she was transfered to someone else). this person who answered the transfered call asked why do you want to cancel; oh if you stay with us we will give you a free upgrade and 6 months 1/2 line rental (after explaining that she-my gf- was forced to get an o2 phone back in february because the 3 service was so cr*p, the operator said you can offer this upgrade to a friend or famil member, YEAH CAUSE WE'D LIKE THEM TO EXPERIENCE 3'S WONDERFUL SERVICE, i think not).

so after that this operator says "i need to transfer your call"- AGAIN. but this time, for the first time EVER with 3 my gf spoke to someone in the UK. This girl on the phone asked why she wanted to cancel- told her the phone (LG 8110) was crap had tech problems since october, operator said I know "did you see watchdog" of course I did my gf replied, the operator said the person you spoke to when you phoned back in december(ish) should have offered you a replacement phone. "what good is that now?" my gf asked.

if only 3 let there UK staff answer calls the service would not be as bad as it is. my gf said if she spoke to this girl (she was sympathetic and understanding) when trying to get it to work back when the problems first started she probably wouldnt have cancelled her contract with 3.

anyway enough for just now i can go on forever but will stop here (morally of the story, ask to cancel your 3 contract and you will get someone in the UK)

Cancel a contract with any company, and they'll offer you their best service. It's a fact.

Absolute b0llocks. I was a direct debit customer with Orange since early 1996 and they didn't even blink when I cancelled after 8 years of loyalty to their cack network. The least they could have done is warned me about how truly and completely awful the next 12 months with Vodafone was going to be though.. if I'd known then what I know now... etc.

I don't think it works everytime, it depends on how much they want to keep your business and how good you are on the phone with them.

My mate's crap with stuff like this and every year Voda give him the minimal deal and he daren't ask for more. When I was on Orange I used to get a good deal everytime without fail and even on Three when I renewed I managed to shift their £70 upgrade charge for the A1000 (when first released) and also got 3 months half price line rental chucked in, which isn't bad really.

almost true, but it does depend when you call, for example, if you phone near the end of a financial year they do more to try and persuade you to stay.
