Dr Who is doing very well, and it has always been my fav programme and i want it to stay but that was not good tonight, even though this is a two parter Dr who would still work better with 4 parters, as already mentioned on here 45 mins is to cramped.

Glad we have another convert in the family...the more the merrier!

It seems to be performing very well in the time slot it is in and at this time of year but it does make you wonder if the ratings would be slightly higher if it was shown in the winter months when more people stay in.

Something that seems to have snuck in under the radar (unless I've missed it elsewhere). Just what the heck are these Time Agents CJ kept referring to????

I read in my newspaper that Captain Jack is a bisexual and in a later episode flirts with the doctor!

Can't wait!

At times I wish they could extend it to 60 mins as other series like Spooks and Hustle are. 'Rose' suffered from trying to cram too much into the 45 min slot.

Was thinking the same thing. The technology he had didn't seem at all primitive. JB did say in DW Confidential that CJ is from the 51st Century so perhaps we will learn more in the next few episodes.

People who sell time travel technology? The time lords aren't around anymore to police it all

I loved Capn Jack, I really hope he sticks around permanently! I bet he'd have fantastic chemistry with David Tenant.

Nice idea and could tie in with another theory that someone came up with that Geocomtex from the Dalek episode could be the pioneers behind that.

Agreed, it's all to rushed, even for a two parter tonight, great series though, looking forward to every episode but changes are needed and not just the DR or Rose.

JB was vague when asked if he was returning for the next series. All he would say is he is in til he end of this one and after that we would have to wait and see...

Still a bit confused though - over the whole of time only the Time Lords and Daleks (and arguably the Cybermen and Sontarans) ever had (or will have) time travel. Humans never did (or will do) at all.

Unless, of course, the wiping of Time Lords and Daleks from existence has let other races into the, er, race.

I haven't taken to him at all, I hadn't liked the look of the character from the trailer and by the end of the episode he was annoying me immensley.

Mind you I'm not looking forward to David Tennant either - really wish CE was stayng

Perhaps it is all down to budget. If they did take it to 60mins with the existing finances then perhaps they would have to make cuts on things like effects, casting known actors, that kind of thing. The BBC would have to give it more money.

For those of you that think the episodes are too short... looks like we might be getting extended versions in the DVD Box set in November - the BBFC website lists 2 versions of Rose... standard widescreen version at 43min 37secs, and a widescreen extended version with a running time of... are you ready for this... brace yourselves... 44mins 17secs.

A whole 40 seconds extra.

My God I can't wait... the excitement starts here.

(and yes, that was sarcasm!) lol

Or the information went to the highest bidder. It is all tied up in the ongoing themes of money, greed, the consortium involved with the Face of Boe and time of course. There is more to this than meets the eye which is what I have thought all along.

The "Time Agents" were first mentioned in Tom Baker's 1970s seiral The Talons of Weng Chiang. But they were just a name, like in this episode, with no real details about them.

Reading between the lines from the context in Talons of Weng Chiang the Time Agents appeared to be humans from around the 50th or 51st century that track down rogue time travellers from that era. Weng Chiang was afraid that Tom Baker's Doctor might be a Time Agent come to bring him back to his own time.

(Hmm... Didn't someone here say Captain Jack was from the 51st century? Nice touch at integrating the old and the new series.)

Humans do (or will) have a very primitive form of time travel in the 51st century. Weng Chaing was a time traveller from that era, afraid of human Time Agents taking him back to his own time.

And even 20th century humans came very close to developing time travel in Invasion of the Dinosaurs and City of Death.

I picked up on the reference from the interview JB gave in Confidential. You may be onto something there about it being a crossover from the old series to the new one but RTD is not keen on too much of the lore so he may have just used it without really thinking about it..the same way he did about the Time War which originally he was just going to refer to as the war when planning this season.
