Never gonna happen. The TARDIS is a sex-free zone. The quickest way to kill the series off permanently would be to turn it into a soap.

Well, maybe that's the second quickest way.... letting ITV show it would be the first...

Apparantly, Rachel Stevens (S Club 7) auditioned/applied for the part of Rose before it was given to Billie.

I don't know if she can act, but she'd certainly get the dads tuning in - in the same way Leela and Peri did.

As long as it isn't some dreadful ex-Eastenders actress I'll be happy.

And I'm really hoping that doesn't happen. Yes, there has been a lot of focus on Rose in this series, but I think she's really shone in the role.

Tsk, tsk. Nicking a post word for word from The DVDForums without crediting the source. Piss-poor netiquette.

Triangle? Alien? Kate O'Mara!

Why not Jade Goody?

Oh forgot, she swears on kids shows - might not get through the tardis door until shes worked up a sweat.

Imagine the amount she could drip on a hot summers night with Casanova

if Goody was to take the role, it would have to be renamed Doctor OOOOHHHHH?

At the risk of being shunned and stocked by the shocked and stunned, RS was actually one of the better things about the S-Club shows (although Linda Blair's "Exorcist" in-jokes kept me chortling for some time after)...I'd imagine we're looking at a different sort of companion to Rose though and one who could presumably cope with being in close proximity to DT in his kilt...personally, I'd love to see Angela Griffin in the Tardis...bit of gutsy no-nonsense back-up for the Doc's what's required next

Wasn't it a surprise that Billie is as good an actress as she is?

I'm still hoping this isn't true. I honestly think Billie has taken the crown as the best companion ever. She's not the screaming Mimi, overt sexpot, or exposition device ("she who asks the questions") most previous companions were, and arguably for a change the viewers cared as much about a companion as the Doctor. She brought some wonder to the role, but didn't manifest that by staring at everything with her mouth open like like a fish.

At the very least, I hope the trend is now set to at least make sure the companion can actually act, instead of just scream.

Nah, Billie's OK (and far better than I thought she would be) but she still can't beat Jo Grant or Sarah Jane Smith.

Possibly they weren't as fully rounded characters but they were the best! Actually, Ian and Barbara are up there with the best of them too!

the strength of the new Doctor Who is in the excellent writing..Chris Eccelston and Billie Pipers exits wil make no difference to the success of the show..to be honest any actor or actress could play the roles..the show has always been bigger than the actors who come and go constantly.

Agreed!

Disagree! The wrong choice of lead actor can be disastrous! Fortunately, they've made a good choice for Eccleston's replacement.

Peter Davisons daughter auditioned for the role of rose and she was seriously considered!

I've been super impressed by Billie as Rose, but looking at how much detail they've gone into her character in such a short space of time, I think it was inevitable that she was going to go soon. We've had so much exposition that there isn't much else to do with the character - probably because they knew she wouldn't stay much longer than series 1...

I think there should be a male and female assisstant.

I think it'd be wierd if she left so soon considering they have introduced other characters who are connected to her (her mum, Mickey) They'll probably all have to leave as well, whereas the characters all seem to have quite a bit of mileage in them to me.

As something of a self-confessed oldie where DW is concerned I can't help but think that the publicity buzz generated by comings and goings of Cast is something of a 21st Century tabloid phenomenon. DW dealt with the problem of Actors leaving in the first series' back in the 60s and it really doesn't matter who takes over as The Doctor or who steps as companion(s) because some will love them, some will hate them. As long as the show remains watchable, innovative, scary, well written and enjoyable then it will endure...as someone posted before, it has always been greater than the sum of its parts and even Tom Baker admits to being somewhat taken aback when his resignation was accepted because he inadvertently found himself believing that his role in DW was bigger than the programme...

The message coming out from the actors performing these scripts, is that they would rather not be associated with them (for reasons known only to themselves).

I think that (if he's not already doing it) Russell T Davies needs a very serious re-think, with regards to the content that he sanctions here, as Producer.

But then again, there are still a legion of Dr Who fans, wondering 'what exactly happened here?'.. Maybe he's joking, hanging in there for the next Cannes?

Another Exposition of a 'bunny boiling' everything...(that) 'I am' maybe?

It may well turn out that RTD, in producing 'Dr. Who' didn't actualy venture too far from his Childrens' TV roots, and is quite happy with that....as long as it spawns a Hollywood proposal!

'RentaGhost' was far better than the current (hi-budget) offering though (IMO)

It seems to me that most of the people involved in this programme see it as more of a stepping stone to some great big, successful Hollywood career - who are they trying to kid?!

The actors in DW are competent but there's much better out there.
