Cancelling Homechoice
fergusm
22-05-2005
I have read here before that if I move house, Homechoice will cancel my contract despite me having a few months of my contract to run. Is this the case?? I have been very disappointed with Homechoice and will switch to Freeview and regular broadband in my new house.

I am in a similar situation (although I quite like the HC service) so would be interested to find out what happens to you fergusm.

I am moving and talked to them about this the other day - basically they said that I have to honour my 12 month contract. If I move somewhere where HC is available then they will reconnect me for free and transfer over my contract (and, so it appears, allow me to take advantage of their special offers again too). But if it's not available I would have to pay a penalty (or rather keep paying for a service which I don't have until the 12 months is up). This seems quite harsh, obviously, but I guess it's in the contract...

It's a shame this is happening, particularly with the old cable networks we're left with to choose from (although I'm lucky to be on an upgraded network). Hopefully the ex-Videotron and other areas will improve for anyone about to lose HC.

That's not what I was told. If I had moved to an area where it wasn't available they would have cancelled for free, like the cable companies do. I'd ring again to make sure.

HC won't and can't charge you if you move outside thier service area. They cannot make you pay up your contract if they are physically unable to provide a service to you.

I spoke to them on the phone and was told I would have to pay for any remaining months whether I was inside their service area or not. I think I will be inside the area as I am moving to a newly built house around the corner from where I live now..

yeah that's odd. guess it's like bandwidth caps - they don't really enforce them. so ditto if i moved to an area not covered by them they'd theoretically charge me shedloads of money but probably not force me too... maybe.
