i think the cost of 02 text messages are expensive at 12p each, my phone eats the credit as soon as i put it on, any ideas how to combat this so to speak. im currently using about £10 credit on txts in 48 hours.

You can buy text bolt ons which bring the cost down substantially. There is also an online tarrif where if you top up £10 a mth you get 300 texts free a mth. Give customer care a call and they will sort it out for you

I put at lest £10 in my phone every 6 or 7 days. I wait untill I got just under £2 in my mobile then I top up with £10. I got £10 due back so far from the 02 rewards thing.

They should only be 10p each, which is the same rate as Virgin's Xnet texts but cheaper than Orange and Voda (12p). There are cheaper options with O2 as well, why not move on to the 'Online' tariff and get 300 free a month, or buy a bolt on.

I agree though, if the new MNVO's can charge around 6p or less for text message, why can't the original operators? I suspect it has everything to do with profits.

If you're on o2 original which uses Peak/Off Peak price plan, then the texts will be 12p. You can change this to o2 talkalot where calls cost a lot for first 3 mins, then the rate declines. The texts on this cost 10p.

You can also try to get hold of an o2 sim card with 300 free texts per month. They're great !

Anti-Reality-TV, haven't you heard of 02 Online? A good option is 02 online Talkalotmore. For £15, you get

150 Offpeak Xnet Minutes.
300 Free Texts, or up to 100 Anytime Xnet minutes.
'1MB' Free GPRS browsing, although it's unlimited to me.

Plus every 3 months, you'll get £4.50 (or 10% of all you've topped up if you opt for it.
