Top Of The Pops

I haven't watched TOTP regularly for well over five years, but from what I hear, it isn't really that good anymore.

So, does anyone here actually watch TOTP on a regular basis?

If so, what keeps you watching it? What bits do you like about it, and what bits don't you like and would change?

You're right -its complete shite .
Hosted by talentless nonentities like Jamie"Thimble' Theakston and Sara "All attitude and no talent " Cox and each week showing the latest boy bands and faceless boring dance acts to sell 3,000 copies and fly straight into the Top 10.
Having said that there is usually one pearl among the swine every week that is worth watching and stands out like a beacon, although it somehow looks totally wrong when they have class acts like PSB and REM on just before G-G-G Gareth
This week the excellent Vines were on along with horror of horrors, Steps Juniors -some younger relatives of one of the female members of the late lamented group, and the truly crappest of the crap So '"Solid" Crew.
Oh for the glory days of the eighties and mid nineties
The reruns they used to show on UK Gold used to be ace!!

I don't like shows like TOTP where artists don't sing live

Therefore I like Jools Holland because it's all live on there.

i don't watch it regularly, but i still think it's ok, i really only watch it wen one of my favourite artists is on it. I don't think it's too bad tho, but the live artists are deffinately better.

Its mostly crap - mainly due to the music in the charts, but I think it has picked up a bit since 5 or so years ago - I'm sure back then it was actually a lot worse....

Having people just sing live in the bar sometimes produces some fairly good performances, and a bit less studio looking.

When arr wurr a lad, the worst aspect of ToTP were the ocasional times a band would come on and perform live. Excepting the groups who could do it live, most of those that tried were embarassing in their inability to hold a tune. I haven't watched it for years now so it's irrelevant now, but we always watched ToTP to see a band do their hit single, not some near approximation of it.

It has never been the same since Legs & Co stopped dancing on it each week !

Hayden30 has got it right. I cant add much to what has been said apart from when I last saw TOTP in full it was when the Chili Peppers played Scar Tissue live.. everything else on the show was total crap compared to that. It just shows that there is very little good proper music around..

Give the majority of the top 40 musical instruments and put them in front of 60,000 REAL music fans and watch them shrink right before your eyes.

After reading this thread I've watched it for the last two weeks! The show last week was pretty good, everyone seemed to sing live apart from Four Strings and Holly Valance. There have been good performances by Sugababes and Idlewild, plus I really enjoyed Tweet as well. Mary J Blige really was on fire tho!

Aye it is actually getting much better recently with all the "alternative" and indie bands getting a run out they actually sing live and are usually pretty good. I always have the control ready to swap to MTV2 if S Club Juniors come on

I see your point entirely but these days with the inclusion of all these music channels where you can see most artist numerous times a day I don't think we need any more performances that are not live.
