Sony HT-SL7A
I went to the Sony Centre today to purchase a HTK-475 dolby digital amp and speaker set. They had sold out though and claimed it would be very difficult to get hold of one due to replacements coming out in the next few months. I dont want to buy one on line due to having bad experiences ordering things via the net.
The staff recommended to me the HT-SL7A home theatre kit. They told me that it is just as good technically as the HTK-475 set and that the speakers may even be of better quality. I dont really trust them though as they are trying to sell me the thing after all. I was wondering if anyone had the H-TSL7A kit and could give me an opinion. One thing that worried me was that I looked in the Sony Brochure and it doesnt mention anything about it having Dolby Digital or DTS capabilities, although im sure it has. Is it as good as the 475 model? Any views, advice or opinions would be appreciated. P.S The price they are quoting me is £479. Thanks |

Danny,
I have this and am very impressed. Main reason I got it was its very slim (only half the height of normal amp), and want Silver Sony to match the rest of my kit. Sounds fine in my lounge which is not very big. It has 80w per channel which should be plenty, much better then the 215 which only has 25w Also it has both DD & DTS 5.1 If you want to buy try Unbeatable http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/ they are owned by the company who have my local Sony Shop fanchises in Horsham and Crawley its only £366 so around £100 saving on the rrp. Get the STR-585 with Prologic2 and a higher power output.
Match this with the Save 325 Speakers an upgrade on the 225 which were the speakers in the HTK-475 and it will cost you around 350 Pounds. Only problem is that the 585 isnt out until June. Avoid the HTD-DW740 as this has a cheap speaker kit. Retailing here for 300 pounds and $299 dollars in the US. |
