I know that there has been speculation that RTD/CE/DT may be conspiring to plant the biggest red herring in TV history, with CE continuing in the role.
I have a hunch that it may be the free-flowing alcohol in some FM's hands that has led to this, and sadly I think I have to refute it.
Just before the new series started CE was a guest on the BBC Saturday morning show (can't remember the name).
I don't remember much about the 'interview' which I think involved the presenters and some of the children in the audience. I'm pretty sure that he repeated the fact that it was the prospect of working with RTD that had drawn him to it.
But the thing that really stuck in my head was that he constantly talked about the show in the past tense. I'm sorry I can't quote you any examples, but I was struck by it. It wasn't just that he was describing incidents that had happened on the set. It was the sense that he was talking like an actor who has a new film out - yes I enjoyed playing that role - but there's not going to be a sequel.
Did anyone else notice this?

and he's naturally got a lovely West Coast burr you'd rather hear that than another RP voice (then, again, nothing wrong with that - that's my accent with a trace of Midlands)
