yep, you can re encode it at a lower bit rate.

i use www.dbpoweramp.com but mp3 is no longer free, its only a 30 day trial, but if you only need it for one song...

Use DietMP3.. I swear by the program - and its so easy to use. I can manage about 60 MP3s on my LG8150 using it:

Also check to see if your phone can also play them in a different file format. Nokias can play AAC music files as well as MP3's, I find that 80-96kbps in AAC can sound as good in most cases as a 128-160kbps MP3.

Choose cellphone, telephone quality and stereo as your options when setting up.

maybe your phone won't play .wma extensions?
you'll have to convert to .mp3 first!

now this is the thing, it does support .wma also aac, 3ga, asf, mid and midi files.

when i use dietmp3 it will convert the mp3 to a smaller size when i do cell phone, fm quality, mp3 and mono it will play fine on the phone, now if i change from fm quality to telephone the phone just says unable to open file and it has been converted to an mp3 file

maybe it cant handle certain bit rates or encoding types, like VBR, or maybe a mixture of both?

if it can handle aac, i would use that at the lower bit rate, just to throw some more confusion in the bucket

www.dbpoweramp.com should do that for free

for best results, always start with a CD source and rip that directly, or to a wav and then convert

then select AAC, chose the lowerst biteate and hit convert
