no, it's free on freeview. NOT free to view on Sky.

If you have freeview, you'll get it free. If you have a sky box, you won't. Freeview, not free view

Digital Terriestial Freeview via a House Aerial its on the same Digital Multiplex Channel 4 and ITV Channels are on as well as E4 +1 do you have Channel 705? if not follow your boxes rescan instructions.

If you got the Free Sat from Sky offering or Sky Digital its not free. with FreeSat you need a Freesat card - think its £20 ish

No, E4 is not free by any means on Sky.

Also.. for reference.. The channels you get free on Sky are part of a network called "Freesat," I believe. "Freeview," is a seperate venture..
While many of the channels are free on both, and there is some overlap, there are some differences.. like this.

I think E4 are tied into a contract with Sky, and they're having to compensate them by giving any royalties they would get from being on Sky, back to Sky.. or something? not sure..

No.

You will not get E4 for free through your Sky Box at all.

When they say " Freeview " as mentioned in the one you quote, they mean the service called Freeview. You need a Freeview box to get it or a card or USB thing for your pc.

Anthony, calm down, I got something wrong & was given a polite & helpful response. I thought I was getting Freeview, I occasionally get something called Freeview with film4.

Why do people get these mixed up. Freeview is the name for the Digital Terrestrial service only.

Channel 4 are in contract with Sky and will not be able to broadcast E4 on the Sky Digital platform until 2008 when the current contract expires, as far as I know from what I've read.

I think the Freeview service is going to get a lot more popular over the next few weeks.

I think you are a little confused there!!!!

There are some channels on Freeview that are also on satellite and cable, in the same way there are Heinz beans in Tescos, Sainsbury's and Asda!

But they should be getting ITV1 and Ch4 with FreeSat if the have a recently cancelled viewing card or a FreeSat viewing card.

(FTV/FreeSat card required for ITV1, ITV2, Ch4 and Five)

E4 channels - no - these are subscription via satellite.

Thank-you for clarifying Tex, I have had Sky for several years but recently cancelled & thought I was now getting Freeview, I have got an old Nokia set top box, which I originally got with on.digital before it changed to On.itv so will get that out tomorrow & compare the two.

http://www.freesatfromsky.com/?pID=3 lists the channels you should be receiving. ITV1, ITV2, Ch4 and Five require the use of your cancelled viewing card, as once you cancel Sky it turns into a FreeSat card, all the other channels on FreeSat are FreeToAir so require no card.

There will be a few channels you can get on Freeview that you can't on FreeSat, like E4, FTN, The Hits, TMF. http://www.freeview.co.uk/whatson/index.html

It's worth having both satellite and Freeview.
