Freeview Stream Crashing to E4 Adverts
TheCableGuy

Cant Channel4 devise a way of going to adverts in a more cleaner way?

At the moment the stream simply crashes to E4 adverts with no fade or any care in what they are crashing into (e.g E4 is showing Hollyoaks at the moment and either side of the adverts we see a brief part of the Hollyoaks titles).

I assume this is all completly automatic (time stamp in the TS that tells the 705 stream to cut to Ch14 ads?), but cant this be tweaked so that the ads crash a few seconds later. Im sure it wouldnt take that much effort - and would look neater as every E4 junction has a BB related sting somewhere in it.

Am I being to fussy here or does anyone else agree this should be seen to?

Also on a side note i notice the stream is very empty - how long before Ch4/Endemol start littering the screen with TXT stuff?

Well that's Channel 4 for you - shoddy all round.

Its been like it since BB2.. yeah it could be more professional, but is it that much of a big issue?

As for them filling up the stream with TXT stuff.. it won't happen on the interactive feed, just the main E4 feed.

It's always been like that

I'm surprised they haven't got a DOG on the top left saying E4 XTRA or something.

Brillliant news. Having been left with the dark with NTL all these years, this is the first time i've experienced the live stream (Freeview), so i wasnt sure.

It's been like this for years.

Probably better as it is without stings etc - at least we get a few more seconds of BB before the ads etc.

Will they still have 'sorry for the gaps in sound' messages at the bottom on the stream on 705? And things like VOTE TO SAVE... ON... at the bottom?

No, in the past these have only appeared on E4 and not the interactive feed. It usually remains clear.

Cool - thanks. That's probably because they get the feed direct from "CH4 LONDON" - remember yesterday?

Thats just because all Endemol output (for broadcast) is being uplinked via satellite to Horseferry Road in London (Channel 4 HQ) where it is being broadcast on the various platforms. The "CH4 LONDON" from yesterday was just testing one of the feeds from Horseferry Road.

Its a bit daft. Like when it says "on now is friends" and bb live returns

I still notice on the live feed there are gaps in sound and chicken shots even though they don't have chicken this year. Would have thought they'd let it go out unedited on the Red Button feed and cut it for the mainstream.

Now they've lost subscription income they need to get the advertisers on board. This is the simplest way of doing it.

It does look really unproffesional. A little bit more effort could have made a big difference. I'm surprised it isn't part of the deal that there are TalkTalk promos at each break on the live stream.

It does look messy, especially when you get the Friends sponsor bumpers then cut to E4.

It be far neater if they cut into the break bumpers - isn't that what they are there for!

And that's the daftest thing, it goes to ads with the Friends (or whatever) sponsor but not the Big Brother sponsor. They really should have put a bit more effort into it.

I'd rather they get all of the Red Button actions working first

They probably WANT you to see a few seconds of the programmes on E4 - so the E4 programmes get viewers as people switch over to it.

The BB sponsor gets what they pay for. The whole point of the feed is to increase the number of viewers for E4 - and E4's advertisers and sponsors.

Otherwise the sponsor of Friends may get upset at E4 advertising a service which takes viewers away from them. The periodic announcements about "coming up on E4" remind people there is life beyond BB. (Ha!)

You just have to complain about something, don't you.

This is how it's been since the start of E4.

I actually prefer it like this even if it does look a bit shoddy. When watching on the interactive you don't get the fading down of the sound into the ad break. Last year you would just go from the house to the titles cutting in at 10x the volume. Obviously in the early hours that's not good. This way you get 2 seconds to turn down the volume before getting deafened. Those who listen on headphones will know what I mean.

Does anyone else miss the old way of four possible cameras to watch. It was much better that way than watching what The producers want us to watch. Even the live feed is controlled by them so we still only see what they want us to see. Its so unfair!
