Yes, that's what Maxwell said he was responding to.

But why would he suggest she goes back to her own country?
It doesn't make much sense as an answer to what she said.
She wasn't complaining that she didn't like living in England, she was making the point that although English is her tenth language she can speak it very well.

It wasnt racist because it had nothing to do with her race.
It was a comment about her nationality.

Think about it.
If there was a black english man in france who was told to "go back to his own country" would that be racist just because hes black? Of course not.

Well i dont have time to go back and forth with you ignorant people who will defend racists at every opportunity since its now 7am and im about to go to bed..not read through your replies..but im guessing that its either more of that racist card crap or somehow this comment wasnt racist...i personally dont think that you would ever admit that someone was racist...they could say a flippin racist word to someones face and somehow you ignorant people would just blindly say "oh no they're not racist" ,,maybe you share the same views...but as far as i am concerned..maxwell is not that intelligent to be specific about her country..his whole presence about him you can tell he has hidden views..its a bit of a low i.q. laddish thing to say to an ethnic minority "oh piss off back to your own country"..No way or form was he looking at that she was born in zimbabwe...but the fact that she doesnt belong in his white classed country..like i said before many times..if its about her nationality..then it doesnt make sense because its BRITISH as she holds a british passport..so as far as the law is concerned..this IS her country..but thats political correctness..and thats what you all hate so much thats why you mention it..anyone with common sense knows what he meant..you just want to stay being ignorant..keep your head in the sand..im going to bed

Personally I find nationalist comments as offensive as racist ones usually so I don't think it's of much relevance which of the 2 you want to label it as - it was still a stupid and offensive thing for him to have said.

I apologise, but I started another thread without seeing this one.
(So maybe a mod might want to merge them)

He might not have originally suggested to Makosi to go back to her own country,...but he certainly did when he recalled that argument when he told somebody else about it.
(Anthony, I think he was telling)
I definitely heard him recall the incident to somebody else, and said to them that he'd told her to go back to her own country then, after she mentioned English being her tenth language.

I think Makosi was being an arse, but Maxwell's comment, whichever version, either the one to Makosi herself, or the one to the person he was telling about it, was well out of order I thought.

Oh I see. Now you put it like that you make him sound so reasonable.

A bigotted arse like Maxwell wouldn't tell a white person to go back to their own country, regardless of where they came from. Sounded racist to me.

excuse me people but saying that statement about nationality is just as bad as saying something about thier skin colour.

that was a derogatory comment and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong in my opinion.

I know a lot of people like him. Hate anything considered PC, say things to shock and genuinely believe in keeping England (note, not UK), English.

They are not the sort of people I would chose to mix with (or let my children mix with!) but this is how they've grown up, their parents and their parents are the same and they'll not change.

They are down to earth and say what they think, and nothing you say will make them change their opinions. They think all women are there to keep them happy in the bedroom and to cook and clean for them the rest of the time. And their women take it because that's how they have been brought up.

I don't think they mean to be offensive or that they even realise how offensive they are.

They are usually called "Chirpy Cockneys" and "Salt of the Earth". And we just have to accept them for what they are.

I fear the type of people who vote on this show..You probably all hate her anways because of her "background" anyways. Lets look at this logically for all those people who are seriously ignorant..We all know that racists and right wingers believe that this country should be white only..so him saying piss off back to your own country means that she doesnt belong here because its HIS country..if thats not racist i dont know what is..so some of you can shove that PC gone mad comments up your a*”

i'm not going to say whether i think what maxwell said is racist or not as i didn't hear it and so cannot comment myself.

however, having read this thread, i am amazed at the bigotry highlighted in this quote.

to me, it is this 'hidden' agenda that is more offensive

Yep ... racist ... it's classic 'thin end of the wedge' stuff ... pretty much what you'd expect from professional Lunduners like Maxwell, with their silly bouncy walks, "always a plej-ah!" mockeney patter, incipient beer bellies & white working class paranoia ... doubtless he (or one of his apologists on the forum) will soon tell us "some of his best friends are black" ...

Your "own" country? ... what kind of bullshit is that? ... unforgivable to say it to anyone, black, white, whatever ... no one chooses where they're born ... everyone has the license to make themselves mobile if they're able ... good luck to them ... the idea of sharing a country exclusively with cliched wideboys like Maxwell does my head in ...

Writing the words ethnic minority is a "hidden" agenda you find offensive?

There were two comments apparently.

The first comment was made directly to Makosi, where Maxwell told her to "Go to another country then" in response to Makosi going on about English being her 10th language.

The second comment was when Maxwell recalled that row with Makosi to somebody else (Anthony), where he told the person that he said that he told Makosoi to "go back to her own country then"

Maybe the first comment could be explained away, but I thought the second comment when he recalled the situation to somebody else, was worse than what he said in the original situation he was referring to.

And Maxwell talking about someone shutting their puffy mouth,..isn't good.

He still looks bigoted to me from what he's said. I'll wait and see how he comes across over the weeks to see if I can think differently. I doubt it though at the moment.

No we don't! Just because somebody was brought up to be a racist pillock doesn't mean you have to put up with it or accept it. Presumably, even a cretin like Maxwell is capable of learning how offensive he is being?

Ditto that, I didn't hear Maxwell's comment personally but I'm struggling to think of what context it could have been taken in to take it in a neutral non-racist way. It appears he said it in response to the fact that Makosi said she spoke 10 languages of which English was her tenth - how does this warrant telling her to go back to her own country??
I don't care if he said it to a black person, if he'd said it to someone Dutch, Chinese, Romanian or American regardless of colour it would still be racist - he's making a discriminatory comment on the basis of someone's nationality.

He was also pressing Science about whether he preferred going out with black girls or white girls.
I'm not saying this is racist in itself. But he never asked Anthony if he preferred white or black girls, and he didn't offer his own opinion on what he himself preferred.
He was just interested in whether Science liked black girls or white girls.
It was just a question he asked Science out of the blue, and there didn't seem to be a reason for it because once Science answered that he didn't have a favourite type, Maxwell said something like "If a black man likes to go out with blondes that's fine" (somebody can correct me with the correct wording here as I might have not heard correctly and that isn't word for word I don't think)...and that was the end of that area of discussion.

Can't say this is racist for sure in itself, but it just came across as a bit sudden and odd in the situation. But when you consider his other comments, I do question if he does have some kind of negative feelings towards certain "types" of people.

I'd say he was ignorant at the very least.

I didn't see the incident, and therefore don't know a) what context it was in, b) the inflection in his voice, etc. But if it was meant in a racist way, things must surely only get worse. They've been in the house for 2 days, and it's already like a warzone.

That's it. I don't want to condemn the man based on little bits, I might have even misheard a bit with the question he asked Science, but right now it doesn't look that good to me, but I guess we'll have to wait and see if anything else just "slips out" now and again over the weeks.

Maxwell is a geezer ... worse, he's a diamond geezer ... he seems to imagine he's very funny, very charming, that he needs to be taken with a pinch of salt 'cos he "speaks his mind", but that basically he has a "heart of gold" ...

Living in London I find him instantly recognisable ... the place is sadly crawling with them ... casually racist because thoughtless & self-satisfied Little Englanders ... retarded, fortress-mentality, hostile equally towards Frogs, Chinks, Blacks, Krauts, Kikes, Yanks & anyone else who isn't white & from NW3/SE17 or whichever shitty little manor they frequent ... & be clear about it - they've no excuse ... they've attended multicultural schools in multiethnic areas & had thousands of pounds of expensive edukashun lavished on them & learnt nothing ...

... the obvious comparison is Bubble but, for all his cheeky chirpy bollox, he wasn't a bigot ... Maxwell is ... boot him out at the first opportunity ...

Thing is though ... Max is dumb - if it does not involved booze, footy, Ibiza or getting a woman drunk ... then he cannot participate in any conversation (from what I have seen of the show so far - which is a lot)
