There have always been camp performers on tv both gay (Larry Grayson) and straight (Bruce Forsyth).
TV just happens to like camp as it is larger than life and non threatening. The only difference now is that camp performers can be open about their sexuality.
There are also many non-camp TV performers, both gay and straight. It's just not that easy to spot a non-camp gay man.
Unless you know them personally how do you know that BB 1-6 has not been littered with 'men who happen to be gay'?
I have never heard the term 'straight acting' being used as an accusation. It is usually used by gay men to describe themselves on dating websites. And I never know what it means
