May I also take this opportunity for ditching your socialist dogma and joining us at the Conservative party. You are now thinking what we are thinking. ”

It;s amazing how swiftly one can change political party allegiance...But yes...Conservative feels good....

Did any of you catch when he was saying about how by being on the show at leest he would be known as the Tory in touch with youth culture LOL.

I love Derek. He is confident with who is is & how he is 'positioned' but that doesn't seem to hold him back.

He is young, ( younger than me by 2 years) fun & 1 step ahead.

I would hate to enter an argument of words with this guy because I would loose abismally yet at the same time, he can hand over arguments on silly issues as he knows they really do not matter.

He is So self confident with out being cocky or needing to be top dog.
He has manners & protocol with out being [overly] pompos.

More so he is funny. He can laugh at himself, laugh at his beleifs & still come out smelling of roses.

I havn't checked out the other threads on this but may be in 4 years time, if I don't in 2005, I may very well vote for him

I think Derek handled the meeting quite well: most of the others are youngsters who have never done anything or been anywhere and the expression on their faces when experiencing how a meeting is correctly chaired was priceless because they are so mentally and spatially disorganised and he is so spot on. I think if he does a little of that he will go a long way. If he does too much he will look too much like a prissy old queen. He has a lot of disarming charm about him and I don't mind that it is obviously rehearsed.

I haven't worked out how to do posts with multiple posts yet, so can't acknowledge original posters but...

the linking of Derek to: Victor Meldrew/Chris Eubank/Kenneth Williams seems spot on. When I first heard about him (and his connection to the Hamilton's/Torys/Fox Hunting) ,I though I would very much dislike him but he is turning out to be good value/ good watching.

I think he could be one to back, if he doesn't get fed up with the whole thing and get angry!

Just remember as a former speech writer he will is fully versed in the art of spin.

He is pretentious, arrogant and an all round numpty.

And you've been a DS member since Nov 2001... 58 posts too - I am seriously impressed by your restraint!

It may have been mentioned elsewhere, but he "sounds" almost exactly like Michael Howard.

Are you thinking what we are thinking?

(possibly the most racially loaded phrase of the last 20 years)

If nothing else at least he's not your standard teenie, gelled up, pretend sleeparound bi-sexual, "I've got an attitude and I'm lovin' it" wannabe.

I really like watching him.

So there

Smelling of roses is not quite the aroma I associate with Derek. Perhaps the manure used to feed the roses. He is a pompous popinjay with questionable politics. But hey, if he votes to repatriate himself permanently to Jamaica in 4 years time or even sooner, I could support that.

Prove it then, big shot. What is racially motivated about that phrase?
