which mobile phone to get?
McCririck
30-05-2005
I seem to have lost my current phone. It was a few years old so no great loss, but it means I need a new one.

I've heard that the Samsung D500 and the Erikkson K750i are both good. Anyone got any experience with these phones? Any others I should consider?

Also, how would I go about getting the best deal? I was going to call Vodafone directly and see if I could haggle with them.

you might get a better response in the mobile phones section.

This is a good site, with independent customer reviews. I took the notion to look up what was available recently, after a recent thread on ringtones and not having used a mobile for a few years myself. In the event, I decided that I still don't need one, but I was impressed at how far technology had come on since I'd last looked.

I have my old Motorola V80; I've had it for about a year but I still heart it. PM me, if you want more info about it. I tried the V3 (Razr) but it was really flimsy and annoyed the h*** out of me (and I am not easy to annoy!) so I switched back to my old school V80. It's a nice phone.

Good luck with your search.

xx

p.s. I'm on Vodafone too. xx

I tried the Panasonic x70 but it annoyed the hell out of me so i went back and got a normal nokia phone. It has a camera but no special features. I don't want a fancy one anyway, a phone is for making calls on.

Theres a cheap pay as you go one on amazon for £19 that gives you £10 of calls and 1000 texts free. Plus it is unlocked so you can then just buy a sim and put it in it if you want, or just keep it as a replacement if you buy a better one.

If you have been on a contract for a few years they should give you a phone for free.

I'm so pleased someone else doesn't like the V3!

I got one last week and it scares me to death. I don't know what induced me to get it. Oh, yes I do - it looked dinkie and black, and the logo was a bit like a batman sign.

I've spent the week trying to decypher it - it took me a day and a half to get the picture of a tub of Benecol I'd somehow taken and got on as a screensaver. I jump every time it rings, cut people off, try to ring people on e-mail addresses and generally go eeeeek.

Oh - and send Midspan manky pictures of me looking astonished cause I don't know what I'm doing with the camera thing.

At the moment, the K750i is the best 2.5G phone out. It's worth a look but there are still sme other good phones out there too.

Trust me, samsung DO have bugs, namely the E800 and X600, however not heard anything bad about the D500 yet, and it looks brilliant.

D500 looks better than the Sony and I dont really intend on using it to play music. How good is the camera on the D500 and what's it like for ringtones/ease of use etc?

The D500 camera is very good quality (in fact most samsungs have quite clear picture quality) and it's 1.3megapixels.
The K750i, however, would be more sought after becase it has a amazingly clear 2megapixel camera.
Both have camera light, video and photo effects.
If you got either phone you'd certailnly have one of the best models this year is going to see. 2 phones with wow factor. I want one now

What's the sound quality of the D500 like? The E720 seems to get very poor reviews for call sound quality.

pretty good for the D500 the sony would be better tho for nearly everything.

At the end of the day one manufacturer is out to get the other. Bit like computers, as soon as you bought one, its old in a week or two and 6 months its an antique
