Its really the same old thing yet again

they have picked only young contestants

why not throw in a couple of oldies or maybe three

i don't mean old, old, but at least 40/50

young people are good, for the sexy angle, but the older ones would bring more laughs, and interest

look at the racing pundit guy from celebrity BB a while back, now he made that show entertaining, while he was in it.

I'm a long time BB fan and have been watching it since the first episode of BB1. I thought that BB5 was fantastic. All of the episodes were eventful and there was always something going on. However, each week there was always an odd episode that would be boring. This year though, it's day 5 and every single episode has been fantastic. I don't actually think BB needs to add any big twists this year.

We have 2 older HMs in there - they provide the necessary contrast to the young 'uns.

Isn't there 3 older people in there this year?

Mary (31), Roberto (32) and Derek (40). Along with the three 19 year olds and the rest are in their twenties.

Whats the average age of the housemates this year then? Anyone know?

fantastic? I wouldnt say its that good.. its the same old BB, nothing ever going on, just a bunch of people sat there arguing over the same thing..

Honestly, I wonder how much more we can watch - every year we see the same subjects debated, but just by different people. Fair enough, they all have different views but BB doesnt let us listen to more than 2mins at anyone time - unless of course its adverts, then you can 3mins of pure ringtones, ace.

Good job, BB.

I agree. Far too many people at the younger end of the age scale. Last years was a good mixture and Kate, Jade etc was a good mix also. The ages of this lot might just make me turn off this time

I had heard that he was a bit older than that and adjusted his age downwards somewhat ? Has anyone else heard the same ? I got my info from a candidate who stood in the general election earlier this month who used to work with him. Allegedly he was dating a married MP !

I just started another thread on this topic (didn't mean to - honest!) and I completely agree

My point is I'm not sure whether it's the age of the contestants or the fact that they're one dimensional with little to offer in the way of interesting conversation.

I realise that it's hard to strike up deep and meaningful conversation with people you know less than a week - but they must have more to offer.

In previous years I would have a fair idea what each of the contestants were about at this stage but to be perfectly honest I can't figure this lot out!!

I'll probably contradict myself two weeks from now and congratulate Endemol on a fantastic mix of housemates

You must have been watching a different programme to me. Every year when BB arrives all the girls that work with me piled into my office to discuss the previous days events, not this year, no one is interested.

Pile of crap, no one of any interest apart from Roberto and Derek perhaps. Bunch of jumped up little *****.

You can be any sexuality, gender or race but heaven forbid that you should dare to be older than 40. Ageism is the last acceptable prejudice in the entertainment world.

Completely agree - especially for females!!

When I look back over all the BBs, I think that like or loate them, the older housemate contributed a lot to the house e.g. Caroline BB1, Stuart BB2, Narinder BB2, Sandy BB3, Ahmed BB4

I know the above are not exactly ancient but at least they're out of their teens!!

Germaine Greer is in her 60s, and I found her very interesting viewing on CBB....

All they seem to do is argue! It's impossible to build up any affinity with these little sods at all. Much more of this and I think I will leave it for this year.

What they need to do is give them something really challenging to do.
I'm sure the majority of them are so young and ignorant they wouldn't know what to do. Lesley especially, you just get the impression she has no idea of the world outside of Heat Magazine

And Anthony. 70's Dancer is not a job, you are unemployed admit it.

This looks set to be a very entertaining BB, but having said that I would still prefer some more older contestants. Some of these 19-23 year olds have very little of interest to say, which is understandable due to a lack of life experience. They also lack confidence and often fail to express themselves coherently (exhibitionism and slanging matches are not an indication of confidence, rather the opposite).

A better mix might be (for 13 contestants):

4 aged 20-25
3 aged 26-30
3 aged 31-40
2 aged 41-50
1 aged 50+

I'm obviously not suggesting that it should be that rigid, but I think that age mix might be interesting. Would give a chance for younger vs older cliques to emerge.

At the moment the older candidates are just token fodder so that the narrator can say "12:15 ehh emm, Stuart/Ahmed/Derek was first to bed", "8:20 ehh emm, Stuart/Ahmed/Derek was the first house mate up". We get this in every series, surprisingly, older people, who have been working for 15+ years, go to bed and wake up earlier.

Having said that, Derek could well emerge as one of the stars of BB6.
