Jade was too dangerous - uncontrollable and almost got lynched - so BB4 played safe and failed- so BB5 decided to have lots of people who were less dangerous and script what happened more, Bb5 was a big success and anything less would look tame so they tried BB6.
There are interesting things going on in Bb5 and 6 but you have to hope it comes out - what are Science, Mary, Lesley, Vanessa, Derek really about?
Look at the "moments" FMs are nominating ... "taboo" is the common thread ... s/he was 'too out of control', 'too naked', 'too knowing' ... always that sense of what is & what is not acceptable ... THAT'S why it remains a social experiment ... it TESTS our threshold for this or that social behaviour ...

But BB didn't start in Britain. It was transfered to see if they could make money also here. Nothing against earning money btw, as long as they don't blatantly take the p|ss.
it was never really a social experiment even BB1 was freaky, people pressing their naked bodies into paint on the wall?
