I dislike Maxwell's 'set-piece tell a joke' moments...BUT i have found him rather entertaining in his more relaxed, go-with-the-flow times. He's often been the one to find (and guide others towards) the humour in the absurdity of BB, their situation and their reactions to it. He has sometimes had a nice line in spontaneous warm jibing at others' eccentricities and frequently jibes at himself in a self-deprecating way...

Wee small hours last night - his casual and relaxed humour over the whole (at Mary's 'psychic-sensitivity' [sic] behest) analyse the artist from the painting...analyse people from the shoes and clothes...stuff was really funny.

By and large Maxwell offers up his humour in good part (like it or not) and he's one of the very few giving of that at the mo.

I found the haircut statement utterly unfunny and didn't pass for wit at all. It was the last retort he could think of without outright insulting Makosi, although he did a pretty good job of it by asking her to get her hair cut. (Excuse me, I'm having problems typing - slapping my thigh at the hilariousness of his comeback).

Mr Blonde, I think you might do well for your future life to understand jealousy. Just because people do not like Maxwell that much, does not automatically mean they're jealous of him . Any old fool can get a badger mullet, speak like a parody of Pauline from Eastenders, and be argumentative. It's not clever, and it sure as eggs is eggs ain't funny.

There is a fine line between being offensive and being funny. Unfortunately, Max, in his eagerness to appear as one of the boys (and more like one of the boyz, given his enjoyment of the male-on-male painted fingernail massage he got from Roberto), skirts on the wrong side of that fine line and ends up being offensive and misunderstood because he does not have the mental acuity or vocabulary to be witty or remotely funny.

I just don't get how anyone can find him entertaining. I feel like there's been a bucket of cold water thrown on everyone in the room when he walks in.

And I love that Kamal can leave Max speechless. Kamal can run rings around him, and that really pisses Max off. Tee-hee.

Stenoboy...his comedy is of the alternative variety i.e. ricky gervais, chris morris, steve coogan so it wont be understood by the typical friends fan...he uses a lot of subtlety in his humour which is why it goes over a lot of peoples heads...at first people thought avid merrion was just rude and offensive until they understood it was just a joke...
...if you dont think hes entertaining then compare him to other housemates such as vanessa and derek who have done NOTHING...what would you rather have...a guy having fun trying to make people laugh or vanessa sat there playing the part of a tree?...

Agreed Vanessa is a hideous girly bore, but I think you give Maxwell WAY too much credit. He's not clever at all. He doesn't say anything you won't hear anywhere else. Or if he does, we're all waiting...

Derek, on the other hand, has the capacity to be funny (sometimes), but he's just holding it in. I'm waiting for him to rip into someone. The hilarious thing will be the other person not understanding half the words he's likely to use.

Maxwell does not have enough life experience or knowledge (other than what he hears dahhn the pub wiv 'is mates, innit) to be funny to anyone other than 0.000000000001% of the population, and half of those would be laughing out of politeness.

When he DOES say something funny, hit the boards with a quote as soon as!

Trashcan, i really dislike all of the comedians you have mentioned, indeed, they are a complete anathema to my sense of wit and humour...nonetheless, i have found a warmer side to Maxwell's humour which i do find amusing. It is impossible to pigeon-hole humour and make judgements based on said tastes, however much we think we can do it. Wit, humour and amusement are very fluid aspects of engagement.

I stated above that i often find Maxwell's set-pieces unfunny and that which may be typically expected of the stereotype you appear inclined to found all upon...other times (granted with a need to cut through expletive) there has been a warm, intelligent, keen, absurd, self-deprecating and interesting humour.

He'll never be Oscar Wilde, true...but humour doesn't always have to be based on some intellectual wit and conceit...Maxwell and Kemal are sheep and cows in their approach...but to claim a superiority based upon criterion grounded within a sense of superiority is unamusing by vitue of lacking in simple wit.

I'm from North London and can assure you that is how people talk there, its a London thing not a regional thing

Maxwell is at the lower end of the scale with regards to London accents - not everyone there speaks like the Artful Dodger I can assure you.

And nether do All people from East London talk like that
But people like Max and his crowd do, and so do many other people, it depends where you go ,I know lots of people who DO talk like this

Maxwell has a great accent which is very fluent and very funny especially when he cracks jokes...him lesley and anthony have the best accents without a shadow of a doubt...

Anyhoo, i hate him, dont think he is funny. But he needs to stay in the house. We really dont need someone like Vanessa wasting our time and the housemates oxygen. So keep in the characters, annoying as they may be.
