If her mobile has a US number then you need to prefix it with +1. If it's a UK mobile being used in the US (i.e. roaming) then just the normal mobile number should work.

Do the US use the "07" prefix for mobiles?
If so, it would be: 017[then rest of number] 01 being the US country prefix, and you miss out the first "0" |

Nope, US mobiles are allocated regular Area Code numbers, they never start with "0".
And the international code for the US is "1" (not "01"). |

When I call the US from a landline I dial "00" + "1" + "Area Code" + "Number". The leading "00" is the international access code from the UK.
From a mobile its easier just dial "+" and the international dialling code. The "+" replaces the international access code (which can vary depending which country you are in). When I am roaming abroad to dial a UK number I just use "+44" and the UK number (missing out the leading zero). |

Is she using a UK mobile? Because if it is a UK mobile out in the States, then you can text her using the normal means, it will cost you the same, and she will pay the extra!

Remove the first zero of the phone number, and add +1 ( if using mobile) or 001 (if using home phone).

If you go to http://www.orange.co.uk/international/calling.html and select your tariff then you should find a list of all the American networks you can and can't text from the UK. There is however a message warning that "some foreign networks may not currently support sending or receiving international text messages" so you will still get a delivery report even though the text hasn't gome through. This has happened to me before.
O2 don't appear to have any of this information on their website. |

o2 are able to send txt messages to US phones. Here is a story from The Register which states:
O2's UK and Ireland customers will be able to exchange text messages with mobile users in North America and send messages to users in Japan and subscribers of Telecom New Zealand, following the launch of the service. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/02...text_services/ - Feb 2004 |

Well.. i have discovered that Sprint PC(her network) doesn't support international txts. Hence why my txts didn't go through. Damn.
Oh well. back to the drawing board . |
