Evens(1/1) means a pound back for each pound staked.
5/6 is 83 pence in the pound.

Odds like that mean it's very close but Mary looks more likely to the bookies. (Don't risk a lot if you're not sure.)

Simple way to understand the odds:

The second number is what you pay, the first number is what you win (if correct)

so:

1/1 means if you put £1 on then you win £1
(or if you put £6 on you win £6)

5/6 means if you put £6 on then you win £5

In all cases you also get your initial stake money back if you win

Craig is now 11/10 to go Mary 5/6. Does that mean the odds on her going have increased further

Oh right, so if you put £5 on 5/6 and £5 on 11/10 then you get more money on 11/10 thus there is more chance of 5/6 to get evicted as the bookies will pay out less??

I think that the bookies are shortening Marys Odds to be evicted because they are worried about her staying.

5/6 is odds on, if the odds were 6/5 this would be odds against.

To calculate the odds devide 5/6 which will give you 0.83. Therefore you will win 83 pence for every pound you stake.

On the other hand if the odds were 6/5 (odds against rather than odds on) the same calculation would give you £1.20 for every pounds staked.

Thanks man, I get it. Last question... So if the bookies have to pay more for your pound ie 2/1 you get £2 for your £1 and there was an odd of 3/1 where you get £3 for your £1 would it be more likely for 2/1 to occur than 3/1??

Yes that's the theory. The bookies are suggesting that as Mary is more likely to go at present, they will pay out less.

But sometimes the bookies, like everyone, make mistakes.
In the CBB3 final, Kenzie was something like 1/10 favourite to win, whilst Bez was more like 5/1. Bez won.

Yes thats correct. But remember you always get back the money you staked if you win. So if you put £1 on something that is 2/1 you will win £2 plus you will get your stake money back so you will end up with £3.

yeah but for the bookies to change the odds the way they are they must have received some info as they way the odds have changed is unusual especially in a two horse race...

I'd be sticking with Craig to be evicted at the moment. (better value odds)
The reason why Marys odds are shorter than Craigs is possibly a few things but the most likely is that if Craig is evicted tonight the Bookies face a massive payout so they are now trying to cover themselves by making out to the 'betting public' that Mary is more likely to go...this now favourite to be evicted will attract lots of bets from punters who always back favourites, thus recouping the money they will lose when Craig is evicted.
Hope this makes some sort of sense.

Or the bookies all know something we dont??
