To me, R's episodes have appeared poorly conceived self-indulgent twaddle with plot-holes you can drive a truck through. The series has been genuinely high quality overall, so it's a shame these episodes have kinda let the side down for many viewers. Perhaps he's a terrific writer, but just not when it comes to sci-fi?
Hey! be fair now!. I have really enjoyed this series and the only thing that was off putting was the Slitheens rubber suits lol

rtd's strengths are in writing about human emotion which is tricky when you have a cast list of non-human characters.. i think the way he characterized rose has been fantastic, and her scenes have been some of the strongest in the series, but i think there has been a struggle to transfer that emotion to the non human characters..

personally i have been pleasantly surprised by rtd, only because i expected him to bring his own agenda to the series at the expense of it's illustrious history and this has in the most part not happened.. personally i think his strongest writing has been in series like bob and rose which i loved, although i look forward immensely to his continuing input into the series.. once the "new" dw has found its stride into the second series, i think we will see exactly what rtd can do with the show

I certainly have no complaints about his writing. I think, sometimes people try to pick at things uneccesarily and if that keeps you amused then fair enough. I just want to be entertained. And the current series does just that. I'll leave the fan-fights and nit picking to those who feel they need to.
