I suppose my original point was that of all the odds at the top of this page, Vanessa's appear to me to be the most generous at the mo, given the conditions I mentioned in my first post.

I have ambivalent feelings towards Vanessa. I haven't seen enough of her to make a judgement. I cannot dislike someone because they are quiet.
I hope she can come out of her shell a little before she gets kicked off. There could be a comic genius lurking in there somewhere

This post is spot on.
Being invisible/flying under the radar works as a solid survival tactic; it's been demonstrated throughout BBUK's history.
Those who maintain a low profile win in a face off against somebody who is viewed negatively. Sam would automatically lose against Vanessa. In fact, I think she would lose against any HM.

People are saying that Vanessa just needs to come out of her shell, but at her audition she was boasting about being shallow and thick so I think it's unlikely that she has hidden depths.
Big Brother is a showcase for celebrity wannabees but Vanessa just seems to have all the entertainment value of your average member of the public.
She seems to be the sort of person who can blend anonymously into any group and presumably she managed to do this all through the auditions. A very bad choice by the producers.

to me the difference is, stu had his entertainment routine and stayed out of arguments and kept everything secret. vanessa looks like she will stand her ground and develop as the weeks go by.

I can't believe that every year contestants don't live up to their hype.

The selection process is going to involve interviews, possibly some psychological testing as well, some questions on their views/attitudes, etc. Endemol do have deep pockets and, following the BB4 debacle, are well aware of the critical importance of choosing the correct HMs in terms of the mix, what they can contribute, storylines/angles to maintain media interest.
It would be churlish for Endemol to rely solely on lame ass audition tapes.
