I'm a bit worried too, DT's a fabulous actor but i'm worried that other people will immediately write him off because he's bound to be different from CE, I just hope they give DT a chance...it will take a bit of getting used to and i think that'll be a problem for some fans.
I actually think DT suits the role better, but that's just my opinion. |

Personally, I think DT will be a far better Doctor, I think CE gave them a familiar name to relaunch the ship and DT will take the whole thing forward.
We also have the great news of a Multiple episode story of featuring the Cybermen, and the promise of visiting other worlds. So I feel Doctor Who will have a more familiar feel for older viewers. And a great feel for the newer ones too. |

I think CE has been absolutely superb as The Doctor and DT has a lot to live up to before coming even close. I'm not much of a DT fan and I'm not looking forward to his portrayal at all.

Dont worry Eileen, few thought too highly of Jon Pertwee prior to him becoming Doctor Who either

![]() I dont think you can deny he's a very good actor though, which makes me think he'll manage it. |

Plus its important to point out that DT is a real Doctor Who fan, I think he will real foucus to achieve what to him has to be the most important role he will ever play.

I think DT will make a great Doctor who, but as long as there's lots of daleks in the next series I'm not that bothered really. Roll on next week!

DT should be easier on the eye, easier on the ear, and hopefully won't do any of the "grinning like a moron" that CE does.
I think they should have cast DT originally. |

There's been a lot of fuss made about the fact that Eccles is leaving after just one series. He will still have had more actual stories than the last three Doctors.

Thats wrong really, as in theory three of his stories were 2 parters and with the exception of McGann the prior two Docs were all multi-part stories and spent three years in the role. Colin Baker having a 12 or was it 14 part story. And a series of double length stories giving a longer episode run than the present. |

Well in that case being as Aliens Of London/world war 3, The Empty Child/Doctor Dances, Badwolf/Parting of the ways are all the same story with different titles then CE has done less than Sylvester McCoy and Colin Baker. |

![]() I don't think we've had a chance to really see what CE can do, because all of the really involving storylines have been more to do with Rose than the Doctor, and the other, RTD-written ones, seem to have the doctor cast as some reject stand-up comedian rather than a serious actor. That said, DT is superbly versatile (and very cute) so I don't think we'll be missing CE too much

I expect the BBC to stop previewing the next episode and Billie
Piper to decide which accent to use.

Hi
I read that somewhere that DT was the first choice for the role in front of CE but the timing was wrong for DT who had signed up for Casanova. Is it true ? |

Seeing as Casanova was another RTD production I don't think timing was the issue.
RTD had worked with CE before, and worked with DT on Casanova. They're both actors he trusts. CE is one of the finest actors of his generation and I was delighted he was cast first. He was a real "safe pair of hands" and I personally loved seeing him explore the lighter side of DWs character as that's not something you see CE do very often. I was really upset when I found out he was leaving. Regular DW thread readers will already know I have a rather substantial crush on DT. I think he will have a very difficult time when he first takes over, for no greater reason than the new Doctor always feels weird for a bit! He's also a great actor, with enormous theatrical experience and the ability to portray the gamut of emotion. So "in summation", I think they're both fab! So what changes? I think the "formula" is reestablished in the minds of the audience so perhaps longer plot arcs (and hopefully more ambitious twists and clues - we'll be expecting it after Bad Wolf!). I think it would be fun to see a really prickly relationship between DT and BP - it would reinforce the great, almost romantic bond she has with CE is series. And finally, let him use his real accent!!!! |

Does anyone know the real reason why Chris is leaving? Don't buy the typecast excuse, or Russell claiming they always knew Chris would only be doing one series - remember the furore over the Who toys with Chris's face on?
I'll just be sorry to see him leave. And Ms. Piper. |
