I looked on the Hit40uk website today, to see where Ben Adams and 'Sorry' had got to in the charts. On their website it said it had got to number 23, however, when I looked on the radio 1 chart, it said number 18.
I asked on the official Ben Adams website which was was right and they said number 18, radio 1 were official.
But is that really the case though, isn't hit40uk the official chart, don't they have an official chart?
It seems strange because although the radio 1 chart is part of the BBC, Hit40uk covers much more radio stations, even though they are commercial, so you would have thought they were the official chart!
Can someone tell me??

Radio 1 is the offical chart.

Basically, Hit40UK is based on the following: Singles, Downloads and Radio Airplay

The Radio 1 chart is based on just singles and downloads.

There is another chart, called the Smash! Hits Chart. This is based on Singles, Radio Airplay and Video Votes on three music channels.

Hit40UK was 'compiled' by The Offical Charts company, and the top 3 had to be the same as the official chart, but now I don't think they are, and it seems that only the number 1 (I'm not even sure about that!) has to be the same.

Yes hit40uk recently changed to us the official top 10, inface I think it may have been as recent as two weeks ago

There is also an airplay chart:

It's strange that Hit 40 UK have only recently changed to the official top ten because its predecessor had the official top ten for many years. However, it does make a mess of that chart.
