Oasis have sold 237,865 copies of their new album this week, just failing to top G4,s opening week, which saw them(G4) achieve sales of approx 244,000.

If that's true then from G4's POV that's really impressive. I wonder if Coldplay's new album which is out today, will do better.

I expect Coldplay to sell more than Oasis. Its only £6.97 in Tesco and £7.47 from Asda Online.

Hi Arty! I think you're right. I think I'll be getting my hands on a copy real soon.

Yeah. It's just a pity that Oasis didn't have an hour long promo being screened every Saturday night for months leading up to the albums release.

I'm sure Oasis (Liam in particular) will be devastated. Not.

Who do you think will sell more in the long run? I wonder!

But they do have a multinational fanbase, lots of radio stations backing them and constant appearances on music shows too...

............and they'll still have that for as long as they chose.

They are in it for the long run.

Knowing what a stickler you are normally for these things, I assume you merely forgot to name the reliable source this information came from.

In any case, I can't see the Gallaghers being overly concerned with comparisons at this early stage.

Reliable source?.........that was me of course.

Agreed about the Gallaghers though.

Dont shoot the messenger
I supported Rowetta in G4, dont care either way for G4 or Steve.
Yes Oasis will probably outsell them by the end of the year, but from an objective POV, G4's performance is very impressive for second place in a reality TV show.

Right, but what help would a multinational fanbase be to sales in Britain (which is what was being discussed)?

That would help Oasis sell more abroad than G4, which I'm guessing they will!

If Oasis were still a force to be reckoned with then these figures might have been a tad more impressive.....

What WOULD impress me however, was if G4's second album achieved sales anywhere near their debut. These teens are very fickle you know...

I agree Satchmo about the teens being very fickle, but I do also think that G4 don't have an exclusively teenage fanbase. But like most artists, it all depends on how well they sell with their follow up album.

Just wanted to add that Coldplay are about to blow every album this year out of the water when X&Y will become the fastest selling album since Oasis' Be Here Now with sales expected to surpass half a million by the end of the week.

From the looks of the audiences at their tour venues, their teen fanbase is a very small percentage.

I have never got the impression their audience consists largely of teens....even on forums the mix is pretty even between age groups.

Tbh i think any viable reason for such good sales has been sought since it happened......Mother's day, album being released on the back of the tour, now they have an fanbase full of fickle teens....

I'm sure Liam and Noel wouldn't have expected their first week sales to be surpassed by G4, but then even Liam has said he is a fan.

I'm sure Coldplay will go on and overtake their first-week figures but nothing will take away the fact that coming from a Saturday Night Talent show they have gone on to achieve the sales they have with their first album......no matter what reasons and 'excuses' people try and throw up.

Now they are setting out on an almost sell-out 24 date tour.....what can people put that down too I wonder?

Aaah so now Steve's career's gone down the toilet, you've come back to make digs at G4... How sad.

Without Mothers Day G4 wouldn't have sold more than Oasis but it's still an amazing statistic.

Steve's career is down the toilet, says who? Do you know something I don't?
Now I've come back? from where? I didn't realise I had gone anywhere
In my opinion G4 are not in the same league as Oasis and thats why I made the comment, there's nothing wrong with it, Its my opinion. Don't attack people for their opinion on a debating thread.... now that is sad

Hmm so have you finally jumped off the bandwagon? I'm sure you said you once liked Steve and even post on his site, even if it is to say something about G4 all the time, but you seem to think his career's gone down the toilet...Once again another faulty crystal ball

You lot denying it won't make it go away. You KNOW his career is swiftly going down the toilet and if Simon Cowell doesn't pull his finger out everyone will forget who he is by the end of the year.

I like Steve's music yes and I have his album, I'm just saying that his career isn't going far... I don't think it ever will.

Just my opinion though...

Like I said, jumping on and off the badnwagon I'm sure there's plenty who agree with me.
