I'd rather listen to the Crazy Frog than that drivel by Akon, but music is very subjective.

The singles chart has been terrible for years now. I thought that downloads included would make it more respectable, but it clearly hasn't.

The singles chart has been reflective of a younger and younger audience for the past 18 years or so (since the days of Stock, Aitken and Waterman) until it seems it's now reached the point where it's main demographic is pre-teen (or even pre-school, given the current top 2)
There's no point in paying attention to it if you're over the age of 12. |

I still don't get people's hatred of the Akon song. It's like they haven't even heard 'Locked Up'!

I don't understand why people even pay attention to the charts anymore. When I was growing up the charts were respectable, back in the days of Blur vs. Oasis people seems genuinely excited about who would be number 1. You don't get that anymore, or if you do it seems so fake because its the product of a TV show or a ringtone, not the quality of the music.
Just for the record, I like the Akon song and think it might even have downloaded it if it had proper vocals rather than that rediculous voice. |

I'm on a crackdown on the misuse of the word chav. |

i haven't bothered with the singles chart for a long time, I only occasionally buy singles which hasn't got a hope in hell of making it onto the chart anyway.

Im steady tryna find a motive, Lets sing about jail and make it cool! Yay!! Why do what i do?, Freedom aint gettin no closer, No matter how far i go, My car is stolen, no registration, Cops patrolin, and now they done stop me, And i get locked up, [Chorus] They won't let me out, they won't let me out, (im locked up) They won't let me out no, they wont let me out, (im locked up) They won't let me out, they won't let me out, (im locked up) They won't let me out no, they won't let me out This kind of music ('gangsta' rap from the US) is quite obviously aimed at the chart buying audience, which is usually kids now-a-days. Then you get those people who think "ooh, this tune is wicked" - you know, those people who scream when 50Cent comes on in a club. They probably don't buy the singles, but they get them other ways (probably downloaded or from a mate). Murk, I don't think many people on these forums own, or even like, the Crazy Frog single - just look around, everyone hates it! It's probably (generalising) kids who are buying the single. |

Do people not realise that crappy novelty songs have been topping the charts for years. Just because you don't like the novelty of the song doesn't mean the charts are going down the drains. I'm sure if the acts you'd like to see at the top of the charts, did so, there would be other people on here saying the charts had gone down the drain. You have to realise that just because you don't like a song doesn't mean its all bad. And also whats wrong with chart singles being bought by youngsters? Are they not allowed music? Did you never buy a novelty record when you were younger? I also take it that you go out each week and buy singles to stop these songs topping the charts?? Well???

I think the introduction of the download chart has hit the main chart hard as alot of the better songs are not even hitting the top ten now.
