Should forum members be limited to starting one thread per day? I don't know about you lot but I'm getting sick of numerous thread being created when something new happens. Is this something the mods should consider?

dont be ridiculous!!

The thread soon drop off the page as everyone latches onto one, or they can be merged. Its just the excitement of something happening.

If thats the case, can this be YOUR pointless thread for the day?

I'm torn on this one. The forum always goes ballistic when something big happens.

The problem is there are some good posters here who make interesting threads and I don't think they should be hampered because others can't follow the simple rule of looking to see if a thread already exists before posting on a subject.

Good idea. Some people just love to see their name in print.

I agree too. As newbie, I have worried a bit about all this today, offending regular members, etc (but been reassured by alot of lovely peeps) but still have not felt I should start a thread..just in case. If you have more rules it may put even more new people off posting and we ain't all bad!!

I could live with that. My ego doesn't need feeding by being the starter of a popular thread.

I agree. Forums are places for discussion not just point making.

Why, is there a shortage of space then?

Mind you, i admit that there are some really good threads that disappear when another one about the same thing is started.

The could do it so you have to be a member before May 2005 to start a thread in the BB forum.

The interweb will explode if there are too many people making multiple threds each day

I'd go along with Swipe. Some FMs are far too ready to start new threads, and at the moment there usually seem to be numerous threads on Page 1 all about exactly the same thing.

I noticed a new FM the other day who had made fourteen posts of which four were to start new threads (all of them pretty dull) — and that was all in her first couple of hours of posting!

Then there are the other FMs who think their own little point is just so important that it simply must have a thread to itself. Most posts can fit quite happily into existing threads.

No, one of the failings of this forum at the moment is that there are so many threads that it is not worthwhile to try to keep up with them. The forum's a mess, in my view, and Swipe's suggestion is perfectly sensible — certainly not ridiculous or pointless!

Maybe people should be made to read the rules before they start on here, which do state that you should check out to see if another thread has been started previously and if they keep reoffending then.....

Oh no..now I am making a rule. There is no easy solution. I only say this as there are 6 get lesley out threads now..but I'd be a hypocrite to say anything else as others have said, people latch onto one thread and the rest drop off the board.

I'll shut up now.

I'm in agreement with you, Sigurd. (nice to see a familiar name!)

Incidentally, I wonder how many threads there are on Page 1 at the moment all saying Lesley should go. About six or seven, I'd guess, though I can't really be bothered to count them — and in any case Page 1 could be quite different in two minutes' time anyway, thanks to the proliferation of very similar threads!

PS: Thanks, Tinkerbella!

Agree with you there - folk should just check first. Sometimes the same thread theme appears several times in less then 10 mins - particularly after any kind of incident.

I think that it is quite simple for the moderators to warn such offenders.

Mistakes are made and sometimes you get two threads, But there are a lot of egotistical idiots who can plainly see the other 5 threads and still start another.

I don't mind people starting new threads. I get miffed with people who start numerous threads on the same topic on the same day revolving around just how wonderful/ hard done by their favourite HM is/ has been.

Yes, would like to see a maximum on the number of threads created. Far too many are created on the same topic and its means its difficult to get a decent discussion going on a particular subject.

Multiple posts, and specifically threads are one of the reasons I try to steer clear of here during BB.

Well, I just started a new one, (my first in two days ) and didn't see any other on that subject as such..and it is nearly down the bottom of the page when I pressed submit..so prehaps I should revise my opinion!

Took me bloomin ages to type too!

Is that the one that nobody's replied to?

Life can be so cruel sometimes, can't it? (I'm afraid I haven't got time to read it at the moment, still less to think of a sensible response to it. Sorry!)
