I can't believe that such total drivel like Celebrity Love Island is beating out Big Brother in the ratings. I'm really suprised! CLI is simply a rip-off of the I'm A Celebrity format in a new location. It's absoloute crap, as is the format it's based on.

I suppose in Big Brother's defence it is only just starting out and ratings always increase as the week's pass and the finale get's closer. How far along it's series is CLI? I'm guessing it must be coming to an end now but I've no idea as I've only ever watched about 10 minutes of it. I wasn't impressed.

I'm not really into CLI, but quite frankley with the bitching and spitefullness of BB over the past week, anything is preferable. I don't want to see constant fights and arguments, and I certainly don't want to see bullying.

If Lesley goes this week, then BB rating will improve. I'll start watching more, that's for sure.

I think CLI has a fair way to run yet.

I think the main problem with BB is the lack of likeable HMs. CLI has a better mix of people. There is not enough diversity in the House this year, viewers aren't being entertained. I don't feel there are enough people we can relate to.

CLI may be cheesy, but there are characters you like as well as love to hate and the group dynamics are very changable.

I just hope Endemol take note, chuck out the HMs and give us a new lot .

BB has nasty HMs and no proper tasks.

How many viewers want to watch arguing and bullying for an hour a night rather than some pretty people on a beach? Obviously we do here but BB are losing the floating viewers because of their poor selection of HMs and lack of appealing plotlines.

CLI has a must-see character - Paul Danan. Big Brother has none. Simple as that.

First, ITV is a bigger channel so it really ought to win when like goes against like. CLI is further in on its run so it has a bit of momentum. It is crap, though, and considered a disaster in ratings terms.

Second, C4 is so obsessed with 18-24 year olds (mentality of 12) that older and/or more discerning viewers are simply pushed off C4. I always watch BB but this year I find the HMs with a few exceptions are inexperienced, immature and depressingly ignorant. It's like watching kindergarten on a sink estate. Even if you don't like them, there's depth to Makosi and Roberto because they are from different cultures and have done unusual things in their lives but the Lesleys and Craigs of this world have less to offer than the Abis or Frans (and they have virtually nothing). Unlike Jade they are not funny and unpredictable.

Third, there is a hateful, negative atmosphere on BB this year. Fun stuff always outrates depressing stuff - compare Paul O'Grady to Richard and Judy. The first show is rubbish but it wins because it is so uptempo and unpretentiously silly.

There's no one on BB that I want to watch. Nothing funny ever happens. If I wanted to watch fighting I'd go down the local hellhole on a Friday night.

I agree with you, one minute you hate him the next you want to mother him.

BB characters are all hateful, and I am fed up with the fighting.

BB at the moment needs the balance thats something only the people who picked the housemates could get right,
i said it day 1 to have some annoying housemates is fun and watchable

I suspect people pick and choose between which series seems to have the best storyline that night. BB is simply not so addictive this year. There are no likeable people, and no interesting tasks. Watching people you don't like battle about things you don't care about gets old fast - I have never seen a BB with less humour than this one, and whatever you think about CLI, it is both intentionally, and unintentionally, very, very funny.

Most people I have spoken to hate this series and have switched off. With characters like Craig and Lesley poisioning the house and not doing a lot else, it just leads to constant petty conflict between housemates that the public generally don't care about or like. I exepct the ratings to continue downwards.

Quite agree with you. The only thing I really like watching with BB this year is the evictions. With the possible exception of Derek, whose knuckles at least don't drag on the ground, Endemol has excelled themselves this year with a bunch of pointless, pathetic nobodies. Their conversation and behaviour is puerile at best, usually disgusting (my son grew out of peeing his pants when he was around 3 years old). Their only means of interacting with each other is by picking fights and bitching, because they don't know any better. It's just not good television, it's acutely embarrassing to watch, and I'm currently just not very interested - forums are much better value!

Paul Danan, although vile, is making CLI at the moment, it's pretty unmissable, and I'll be turning in tonight to see if Bella has finally snapped and batter him with a handy rock.

There is no one making me laugh in BB, and although arguments are entertaining, constant bickering is just boring a wearing. I will stick with BB, as the crowd thins out, hopefully a few genuine characters might start to emerge.

A few obvious reasons...

1. BB has a live feed which many people can keep up with, and don't really need the main show

2. CLI starts before it. Eastenders still gets higher ratings overall than Emmerdale, but Emmerdale always wins when they do this

3. The editing on the BB highlight show is farcical (particularly now with revelations about Derek)

4. People are sick of arguments over such trivial things.

BB is on Channel 4
CLI is on ITV

ITV on average usually always has a larger general viewer base.
Channel 4 on average doesn't get the sort of ratings ITV generally gets anyway.

But as CLI is running in conjunction to BB,..then CLI is probably going to take a few BB viewers that BB would normally have gotten.

With 2 reality shows on at the same time, they're both going to be taking potential viewers off each other.

BB doesn't really get that much more viewers than it does now anyway. Not at this stage anyway.

CLI has only beaten BB head-to-head once - because it started half-an-hour earlier and had a big lead in from Corrie. Every other night of the week, it's BB that people choose.

I like both programmes which is annoyign as they can be on at the same time sometimes and my poor finger hurts from flicking! CLI has got good recently because of Paul being a fool and the whole Isabella, Nicki, Lee, Abi thing.
But BB still wins for me!
