Daft question this may sound, but how come do Channel 4/Five regard 4million odd viewers as a god days work when ITV and BBC1 get 10-13million. IU honestly don't get how they get that many viewers. The only stuff I watch on those two is sport and Neighbours!!

Its seems to be the way it is. BBC2 ch 4 and ch 5 always get average lower ratings than the two main channels.
so 4 million on ch 4 is very good, whilst on ITV in the same approx time slot is just average.

why this should be I dont know, maybe old habits die hard and it takes a good show to praise some folks away from BBC1 and ITV1.?

4.3 million is very respectable for Channel 4 at any time of the day or night. Will be interested to see how many tune in to Friday's eviction given how much exposure the current nomination news is getting.

Great hopefully BB can stick around the 4 million mark until CLI finishes then hopefully it will rise even more.

it's odd that the ratings fall and rise all the time lol, i guess it's competition and time, there are about 3 million loyal fans, and then the rest watch it when they want to.

Actually BBC1 and ITV1 rarely get 10 million viewers these days. Last night ITV1 was behind C4 for much of the night. They tend to get higher ratings for a number of reasons:

they have been established for decades longer. Newer channels have always had to struggle to pull their audiences off them, the trad channels just have to keep the couch potatoes they already have

most viewers look at them first because they are 1 and 3 in the line up, so everything else being equal they win.

Five is only in 80% of homes with terrestrial TV and is on a weaker signal, so it is massively disadvantaged.

BBC and ITV have far more money to spend on marketing and on content. Five has only a small budget. Sky is the best funded brand after the BBC.

C4 has a remit (only just hanging on to it though) to appeal to minority groups so its progs cannot be as commercial as the other channels.

Interesting results based on a straight back-to-back fight (if you ignore any help that Gordon Ramsey may have provided)

I guess there are some serious questions now being asked at ITV1.

10 million on BBC1 and certainly ITV are a thing of the past.

Doctor Who is bringing in record numbers of viewers on a Saturday night and they have figures on average of about 6-7 million and it always beats ITV who are on about 3-4 million at the same time.

Dunno about them but I get it from: http://media.guardian.co.uk/ (you have to register - free - to read the articles). Wednesday's BB details are:

"Big Brother came out on top in the head-to-head reality TV battle with Celebrity Love Island at 10pm, attracting 4.4 million viewers and a 22% audience share.

Celebrity Love Island had to settle for 3.4 million viewers and a 16% audience share."
