Hi...continuing on from the 4th June thread, Best to Worst Episode Poll...here's mine again for a recap..

DALEK (best)
FATHERS DAY
THE UNQUIET DEAD
THE DOCTOR DANCES
ROSE
THE EMPTY CHILD
THE END OF THE WORLD
THE LONG GAME
BOOM TOWN
WORLD WAR THREE
ALIENS OF LONDON (worst, in my opinion)

Let's hope the final two keep up the great standards !

Oh and one final thing.....having just watched Dalek again, I was struck by what said by Stattons assistant after having him escorted out...this may have been mentioned before, I don't know..

"By tonight Henry Van Statton will be a homeless brainless junkie living on the streets of San Diago, Seattle, Sacramento....someplace beginning with S"

Skaro anyone ?

Err... shouldn't this be in the TV programme forum, with the other DW threads?

Completely outstanding (= on a par with the best things EVER on TV):

THE DOCTOR DANCES
THE EMPTY CHILD

Excellent (if we’d had ONLY these, the new series would still have been an absolute triumph):

DALEK
FATHER’S DAY
THE UNQUIET DEAD

Very watchable and enjoyable (on a par with or better than most good examples of classic Doctor Who):

ROSE
THE END OF THE WORLD
THE LONG GAME
WORLD WAR THREE

Good but a little disappointing:

BOOM TOWN
ALIENS OF LONDON

Satisfactory / Poor / Terrible

( NOTHING )

Well this is just my opinion and I am entitled to it. So don't complain. If that is what you feel like doing.

Dalek
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Father's Day
Unquiet Dead
End Of The World
Rose
Boomtown
The Long Game
Aliens of London/World War Three

I hate picking, me. So I've divided them up this way...

The ones I really, really liked and would show to family, friends and colleagues (if I'd taped them):
The Unquiet Dead, Father's Day, The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances.

The ones with enough 'good' moments to keep me watching and thinking and asking questions about:
Dalek, The Long Game, Boomtown.

The ones I watched because "it's Doctor Who, silly!":
Rose, The End of the World, Aliens of London / World War Three.

The ones I watched because I have no life:
The Sunday evening repeats and Doctor Who Confidential.

In the spirit of splitting hairs, but fun splitting hairs;
Dalek
The Empty Child
The Doctor Dances
The Unquiet Dead
Father's Day
The Long Game
Rose
Boom Town
World War Three
Aliens of London.
Can't say any were weak though - definate large gap between Aliens of London and the rest (relegated next season, for sure )

Exactly the same post I made in the 4th June episode thread, but it got lost amongst other ones!

My best --> worst list:

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances

Great script, great acting---FANTASTIC!
---
The Unquiet Dead

Again, great writing and strong acting from all involved
---
Father's Day

Very moving, and explained the complexities of changing history
---
Dalek

First time I'd actually seen a Dalek in an episode of Dr Who, and not just in pictures. I almost felt sorry for it at the end
---
(These ones aren't in any real order )
The End Of The World
The Long Game
Rose

---
Boom Town

Disapointing from a "single episode" point of view, but was good as a "calm-before-the-storm" sort of thing (which is what I saw it as).
---
Aliens Of London/World War III

What could have been a good storyline was ruined by the farting aliens

However, I can't say I've found any of the episodes "poor" - it's a good "start", so to speak, for those who have never watched before (myself included )

The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances were definitely my favourites of the series so far. Those 'undead' humans were genuinely creepy, much more scary than any of the other big flashy aliens we've seen so far.

I notice most people have ranked Boom Town fairly low down. I can understand why, since I'm not a fan of the Slitheen (too cartoony and therefore just a joke), but I thought from a scriptwriting point of view it was really good. Especially the scene in the restaurant, intercut with the dialogue between Rose and Mickey outside.

It spoke volumes for the high quality of Doctor Who when the Daily Mail described Boom Town as 'lacklustre' and still gave it 3 stars (out of 5).

I would say the the one which I was most disappointed with was Dalek. To clarify, with such a wide range of story styles in the series I was looking forward to an all out battle episode, so was disappointed to get a mushy one. From my childhood I remember the daleks as war machines, not emotional wrecks!

Don't get me wrong I love a good heart-tugger, with Father's Day being my favourite episode of the series so far, but not from the Daleks! Perhaps once they've shown Bad Wolf and the season finale I will view Dalek in a more favourable light as it will hopefully be a very different encounter.

It's gotta be ...

1. Father's Day. Sheer genius. Why isn't Paul Cornell writing for Series 2?
2. Dalek. Ditto Rob Shearman.
3. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Brilliant - and scary.
4. The End Of The World. Under-rated mix of humour and pathos. Fab.
5. The Unquiet Dead. Great, but not quite as spooky as it'd like to be.
6. Rose. Good intro for all - love Chris and Billie running over the bridge.
7. Boom Town. Not a Slitheen fan but great writing.
8. Aliens Of London/World War III. Good pay-off but dodgy opener.
9. The Long Game. Not really sure what the point of it all was ...

But generally fantastic. Just hope everyone concerned will keep up the quality ...

DALEK: Outstanding piece of drama - bring on the BAFTAs.

FATHERS DAY: Great drama, clever scipt & well acted.

THE DOCTOR DANCES: 45 mins of sheer joy.

THE UNQUIET DEAD: Wonderful gothic Cardiff romp.

THE EMPTY CHILD: Good old fashioned spooky surrealism.

THE END OF THE WORLD: Great fun and superb FX.

ROSE: Did the job it was meant to: set the series up and explained all viewers needed to know without frightening them off with obsessive fan nonsense.

BOOM TOWN: Clever switch from comedy run about to morality dama.

WORLD WAR THREE: Enjoyable run around. Oh Bol!

ALIENS OF LONDON: Not great, but good fun.

THE LONG GAME: My least favourite, but I don't think it's bad.

I think I will wait until the series has finished airing until I post my fave's (I know a few people already know what they are, but even they might be surprised).

Advanced warning - I may even write an 'end of term' report for RTD, so be sure to miss that if you can.

I hope RTD reconsiders and adds Paul Cornell to the writers for series two - and if he writes us a 90-minute christmas special as well, I'll be even happier.

Interesting to see a wide variety of differing opinions.

Obviously everyone's tastes are different but I'd like to state that the series as a WHOLE, so far, has been a very pleasant experience, and if either Chris, Billie, or anyone from the BBC is watching, then consider this a virtual congratulatory handshake

Less than two days to go people until 'Bad Wolf'

Less than one week, two days until 'The Parting of the Ways'

This order so far:

1st: THE UNQUIET DEAD - perfection
2nd: THE EMPTY CHILD - almost perfection
3rd: THE LONG GAME - well constructed and held attention
4th: DALEK - good but not great
5th: BOOM TOWN - very enjoyable
6th: THE DOCTOR DANCES - a let down after the previous episode with a lot of padding
7th: WORLD WAR THREE - scores over the previous episode as the farting was toned down
8th: ALIENS OF LONDON - interesting
9th: THE END OF THE WORLD - okay, but far too rushed
10th: ROSE - an okay introduction but ultimately insubstantial
11th: FATHER'S DAY - utterly utterly dreadful - very poor in every department.

Which, of course, is as appropriate for Rose as it is for the audience.

Because since Bad Wolf has not been aired yet there may be some people who (again in spoilers, don't read if you don't want to know something major about the 'bad wolf' episode)

Spoiler

do not know the Daleks are coming back

and I'd rather not spoil it for those people. I ment a better attempt at doing what is in the spoilers.

Excellent
Fathers Day
Dalek
Empty Child
Doctor Dances

Very Good
End of the World
Rose
Long Game

Good
Boom town
Unquiet Dead
WW3
AOL

While some episodes are obviously better than others, I wouldn't rate any of them as poor, even the ones I didn't enjoy as much, such as the Unquiet Dead (yes I know most people rave about this but it didn't appeal to me as much as most of the others) I would still say were good.

Think I will post mine once we have reached the end of the series but Fathers Day and The Unquiet Dead still stand out for me.

whenever i look in the reviews on OUTPOST GALLIFREY, i find that all of the reviewers tend to hate the episode because they are not like the classic series. I'd just like to say that much of the acting and writing in this new series has been the best it's ever been!
Anyway, my poll:
For me they all deserve to be top but:
EXTRA FANTASTIC:
The Empty Child
The Doctor Dances
Father's Day
FANTASTIC:
Dalek
Unquiet Dead
Long Game
Boom Town
Rose
BRILLIANT:
The End Of The World
World War Three
Aliens Of London

I think the Brilliant category is where most classic who would fit in, with a few going up or down!
