Dance CDs No Longer Mixed By Top DJs

A few years ago the Ministry of Sound, Cream etc dance CDs were always being mixed by the big names in clubland, etc Judge Jules, Tall Paul, Pete Tong.

But nowdays they are uncredited DJs who are doing the compilations. The Euphoria series have always had big names but this seems to be the exception. It seems like the Cream, Ministry of Sound can sell enough CDs without these big names.

Any thoughts on why ? Maybe they just wanted too much money for something that any half decent bedroom DJ can do ?

To be honest the mix Cd's were never mixed live. A dj would come into a studio with the vinyl he was going to use, do a live mix which was recorded. This recording is run through the Pro-Tools system and any mistakes in the mix are corrected, thus coming out with a perfect beat mix.

I knew that the DJs were creating these mixes in studios, but just wondered why they are done 'in-house' these days, and not using big names.

BTW. I have a live Tony De Vit Global Underground CD that has crowd noise at the start and end, but it could well be that this was added in later. Who knows ?

They are probably using software packages to do the mixes now. I've got one on my computer called MixMeister Pro, basically it allows you, using MP3 files and mix the tracks automatically and then burn them to CD all in the same package.
