I don't hate Doctor Who, but I have found it very disappointing.

If I started a thread for every programme I hate, I'd have brought the server down by now.

Anyway, don't sweat it bud, there's only one ep left in the series. Just make sure you're watching the other side.

Oh, and beware you don't get inadvertadly caught out by the christmas special. You'll probably get a two week TV guide in your newspaper, so you can plan in advance to miss that one.

Well, fair enough - each to their own and all that.

I do find the original post objectionable though - saying

just sounds like poor trolling to me.

I know - I should really be ignoring it. But I thought it was worth responding to Tagchild's point, although I'd be interested to know what was disappointing?

Don't ignore any thread with DW in the title. This thread has had over a hundred posts, (mostly positive feedback for the show) and that must add weight to the argument for a seperate forum for sci-fi/fantasy/cult tv.

If people don't like the show it's probably because they haven't followed it properly, or they disliked one particular element in the one episode that they did watch a bit of; the point is you won't change their minds regardless of how good it actually IS when it's given its due attention, you'll just make them more adamant that it's elitist. Maybe they have friends who tell them it's crap without either of them having seen the new series, in which case it's sheep-like thinking, but peer pressure in even so simple a pleasure as Dr Who can make a difference for some people.
The fact is that, for whatever reason, they are missing out on the first British TV show in YEARS that I have enjoyed on so many levels, and posters on Digital Spy have made it clear that I am not alone in thinking this.

Dr Who haters - If you're really lucky the series will get repeated sometime. Forget your preconceptions and try it, the worst that will happen is that you'll miss 45 minutes of Celebrity Shoe Repair. But you might find yourself ten years old all over again.

Disagree with first part of above and totally agree with second part. I'm not that big a fan of modern sci-fi/fantasy on TV, can't stand the nerdiness of it all, don't like Buffy, Trek (which has turned into a space opera) and all those awful US Trek wannabes. Yet I love the new Who, last weeks was almost up there with The Prisoner for its mixture of fantasy and wry comment on the-way-we-live-today etc. It's a lot of fun. If all the sci-fi was lumped together I probably wouldn't visit , maybe we just need a Who section.

Celebrity Shoe Repair? Hey, don't give them ideas! Absolutely, this is why Who is a breath of fresh air. Someone is sitting down, using their imagination and actually creating something. More of this PLEASE. The Mark Gattis (League of Gents) Charles Dickings Who was one of the best things ever. If the viewing figures have fallen I reckon it's cause the show was hyped up, everybody tuned into it for a few episodes and the people who kept on watching it are those with a) a sense of fun/irony b) who still have some imagination.

(I will probably get mobbed by Dr Who fans for saying that! Oh well... bring it on! )”

Why have you resurrected an eight year old thread?

I genuinely found it by accident. I am using the mobile app and it has two arrows at the bottom one which takes you to the next page and the other which takes you to the very last. My dopey fingers pushed the wrong one and it took me to the very darkest ends of the forum. And near the top was this thread. It sounded familiar to recent threads and upon reading through I wa struck by its content. So thought I would bump for illustrative purposes.

Apologies if you don't like it

It's like his thread could have been started yesterday reading some of the posts...which pretty much could be said about the large majority if threads started in the Dr Who section..it's like deja vu sometimes.

No need to apologise!
Just seemed weird that you were posting in a thread from 2005!

Exactly. That was my reason for posting in it as you could change the dates and names but it seems the debates stay very similar. This was Season one!

No worries! I just wanted to clarify I wasn't just resurrecting zombie threads for the sake of it. I just hadn't ever delved back that far before and found it interesting.

What's Dr Who? Is it a cheap knock-off of Doctor Who?
